Hi. lately i've been thinking, was Freddie a copycat? Not as a musician (although theres a lot of resemblance from others, the song "Let It Bleed" as one example; 'rest your weary head' But his persona and life... And the two people he seemed to copy the most are Mick Jagger and David Bowie. Like the sequined leotards, Mick had that first. Also interesting how David Bowie was fascinated by Germany and had moved there,. Bam! What do you know, Freddie also moved to Germany.. WHat do you think? I'm not saying that hes a thief, i like his voice and music but i don't think he was 100% original. |

Of course he was. He even didn't invented moustache by himself. I hate him. |

Maybe cos Germany was the 'place to be' and it was to escape the Tax man. Also Munich and places like that were big 'gay' attractions. |

Well, there are only so many choices in life - so some you make are bound to be the same as that of someone else. As for Freddie, I have no idea of his motives. But I think he looked better than Mick Jagger in the unitard. |

Roger: Freddie wouldn't be running around pretending to be mick jagger.... something like that was said by roger in the magic years box set during the wembly section. freddie wanted to be original and i think that the contrasts between mick and freddie are just coincidences. |

Well, I have a bit of a feeling that Freddie did not get the mustache originally... I just really cannot see Freddie pretending to be another musician. |

Coincidences? "Time waits for no one", the only difference changed the last word to 'nobody', how original and then bandmembers dressing in drag... what else do you need, why can't you people just admit it? |

argent wrote: Coincidences? "Time waits for no one", the only difference changed the last word to 'nobody', how original and then bandmembers dressing in drag... what else do you need, why can't you people just admit it?... What the fuck ?! Men were dressing in drag for a lot longer than anything involving the 80s. If it was a trend then that Queen was part of - who CARES ?! I still think the "I Want to Break Free" video spoof parts are funny. It's not like a bunch of men dressing up as bad imitations of women was anything new even a couple hundred years ago - guys did it for theatre and some got off on it. Clichés in lyrics happen. But, for heaven's sake, after listening to the "Les Misérables" musical recently, I don't have anything against whatever Queen did ("I feel my pain inside me like a knife"... "I am reaching but I fall"...). There are a LIMITED number of choices in the world. Sure, Queen may have been influenced - and they influenced people, too. I don't think they calculated every aspect of their perceptible beings to be a direct theft from someone else. Why don't you admit that you're being foolish ? O... I forgot - you're life is totally original and filled with things that have TOTALLY NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I mean, forget about Germany - look at how many people live in Canada ! Wow, that's not a coincidence, somewhere along the line, you or your ancestors TOTALLY RIPPED OFF some other people who had the grand idea of immigration. |
argent 21.01.2007 19:47 |
To 'The Audacity of Charles': 1. I am not a musician 2. sure there are similarities between those guys but what i mentioned is just TOO similar Ex, A. Two successful bands. But when one dresses up for an album, and then another one decides to do the same in a video.. its been copied. B. Two very famous singers. One moves to Germany, then another one does the same. Pattern? Now thats no coincidence, maybe he thought thats what makes him a rockstar.. but instead it looks like he copied off two other big rockstars. |

Sure, you are not a musician. Your ancestors were perhaps peasants who wanted to go somewhere for a new life and a chance to "make it" - they TOTALLY RIPPED OFF this idea from those who thought that going to the 'new' continent would lead to plenty. What have you named... ? Clichés in songs. This is NOTHING new. At all. Moving to Germany. What the Hell ? It's a country. I don't see a direct connection. Dressing in women's clothing. Oooo - that's SO horrible. And OBVIOUSLY copied. If it was a trend, so what ? What if Freddie had always wanted them to do it, but only was able to goad them into it after someone did it first ? Your argument is a LOGICAL FALLACY - "post hoc, ergo propter hoc" - meaning that "Because X happened after Y, therefore, X happened because of Y". It is a fallacy of argument. You've just drawn more sketchy conclusions than the latest conspiracy novel. Obviously, other human beings influence other human beings. This doesn't make someone a "copy cat". On the subject of copying people - I DO remember reading something about it, maybe Brian May saying something about how early on Freddie "copied" others in a way that he eventually found himself. Something like that, don't really remember. |
argent 21.01.2007 20:29 |
WHY are you still talking about ancestors? I'm talking about at that time, that he suddenly made those moves right after other musicians. Yes if it was a hundred years ago, it would make sense, but all that so sudden looks like copying. |

Your argument is a LOGICAL FALLACY - "post hoc, ergo propter hoc" - meaning that "Because X happened after Y, therefore, X happened because of Y". It is a fallacy of argument. And the bit about ancestors is only poking fun at you. AT THE TIME they came to the "new world" or whatever, they were doubtlessly doing so RIGHT AFTER someone else had the idea. If you don't speak English fluently, I can understand how you might not pick up on the facetious nature of the comment. If you have any quotes or testimony to back up your argument, please provide them and I shall listen in earnest. But all you have here is the plot for a conspiracy novel. |
