Hi all. I am sorry if there aleready is a thread like this. Over the last months I have been very aware of the lyric in the songs we all know so well now. The reason I made this thread, was to get more out of the songs I love so much. I am starting this thread to discuss the meaning of the songs. Some songs that I wanted to start off with is the following: Innuendo I´m going slightly mad Mother love Its a hard life Brakthru Nevermore I hope we can keep the discussion on a fair level, with no spam or offtopic quotes. thanx. All their songs were about Pim & Niek, except Don't Lose Your Head, which was just a filler |

"innuendo" and "i'm going slightly mad" are the only songs of them i would be pretty sure that they are about freddies illness, maybe also "mother love", but that's maybe more about death then the illness. |

serious guys. I recall Freddie said something about Breakthru. It is about breaking down "the baricade" you have in your life and start over again. Kinda like I want to break free. Am I right? Nevermore, I guess is about loosing someone you love. And feel like "theres no living in my life anymore" Right? When reading the Innuendo lyric I feel like there is a mood, that tells me that the teller is some kinda god that arent into the humans way of life and tell about the thin line of what we do here on earth. what do you think? Sorry if this is hard to get the sense of. I am not that good at expressing myself in english. |

And feel like "theres no living in my life anymore" Right?i'm hazarding a guess here...but i don't think this was about anything specific....this song was part of the "middle-section" of the embryonic "bo-rhap" - ie Fairy Feller/Nevermore/March of Black Queen so i think Freddie wrote as a complement to the other two tracks...ie FF = fast n furious, March = a nice buildup for the climax...and Nevermore was the "stop and catch your breath moment"...i think he just wrote lyrics to fit the style of the song... |

Brenski. You might have a good point. You tinhk of these songs as some kinda consept? |

I am starting this thread to discuss the meaning of the songs. Some songs that I wanted to start off with is the following: Innuendo I´m going slightly mad Mother love Its a hard life Brakthru Nevermore Well I will be fair unlike this college of witcrackers. To me Innuendo is about trying to survive and "be yourself" and surrender your ego in a challenging world. It's a battle for infinity but it's one worth fighting. IGSM is a witty music hall song about going insane- there are darker shades of AIDS there but it's masked by this comic veneer. "I'm not my usual top billing" could well be a reflection on Mercury's growing anonymity. Live appearances dried up to occasional glimpses with a doctor. Ultimately, however, Fredie's vocal delivery reminds me of Bono's mr Macphiso character- a demented, over-the hill thespian with a few tales to tell to whoever can be bothered to listen. Mother Love is more explicitely about AIDS. It was written just months before the end and the lyrics "Out in the city in the cold world outside/ I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide" evoke that fear and distress. It's A Hard Life is a great song about love. It's about "waiting for something to fall from the sky", it's about controlling love rather than the other way round when it "cuts you down to size". I gues it's a reflection on Freddie's own frustrations at not finding "true" love. Breakthru is a fairly simple song, thematically. The narrator has met a woman he likes ("I get religion quick/ Cos you're looking divine, is an inpsired couplet) and wants to win her. It's that breakthru he's looking for, making her smile, forging a connection that leads to love. Nevermore seems to be about unrequitted love. The object of the narrator's attentions has sent him to "Nevermore" this barren, inhospital place. It's a place more inside the their head perhaps. |

Well, what about We are the champions? I have hears it was about being gay. What do you think/know? "I done my sentence, but committed noe crime" |
unknown 13.01.2007 09:33 |
To my feeling WATC is not a song about being gay, but about life as a challenge and that only the fittest will survive and in the end become 'Champions'. |

Just thought I'd share something Freddie once said..."Does it mean this, does it mean that, that's all anybody wants to know. Fuck them, darling. I say what any decent poet would say if you dared ask him to analyse his work: If you see it, dear, then it's there."... So like he said, if we think so, it means exactly that. No need flame eachother over it... |

Saif 14.01.2007 12:06 |
Well everyone can have their own opinions but some opinions are just stupid...Bohemian Rhapsody was written in 1975 when AIDS was not even discovered. A lot of people say that almost all songs on the "Innuendo" album are about death, some say AIDS. But it's just like Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" - No one knows who or what it was written about. |

Interpretations of the songs are left completley up to the listener. While they enjoy the fine music, they can have all sorts of ideas regarding the songs' themes. |

Nevermore is not about AIDS, nor is Bohemian Rhapsody.. They were both written before Freddie got AIDS. Besides, people didn't know much about AIDS in the 70's.. They hardly knew the disease existed. And Freddie did not write Breakthru - Roger did. |
