Dell...or Compaq...I have a Compaq...and it's pretty good. But I would definitely go for a Dell...unless you're asking for a specific model...then I don't know much about that...lol.
:)
Samsung R50 WVM 1860.... the one Fred would have bought to surf (backstage) during Brian´s "Guitar Solo"...

A Dell is the same as a Sony is the same as a Compaq...it's all the same devices in different packaging. Whatever happens to a computer is generally the owner's fault - not the computer's.
Also, to give advice as to what computer one should buy, we would need to know what you're going to do with the computer. Just giving you random "brands" to try out is pointless.
The only problem with my laptop is the 1k of memory they include. No need to worry though. I went out and purchased 1314891374-teen GIG OF IT!! *EPLXOIS*
T OPOO MANY IOFROG!

thats not true at all, by the way
Yes, it is. There are only differences between Macs and PCs; the only differences in PC's are A) where they are made, and B) who does the customer support.
As for problems being the owner's fault, they always, most certainly are, except in the rare, rare exception that you somehow get targeted by an experienced hacker.

In this case, just get the cheapest computer that has a DVD player. You don't really need a special machine.

Oh dear god. I HATED - {{{HATED}}} - my sony vaio AND their tech support. It was the worst machine I'd ever owned. I lost tons of work because of that machine. It simply shut down. From week two onward. They'd call it back, 'repair' it and return it. A week later, I'd lose more of my work, wait an hour to speak to a person instead of a computerized operator, and send it back again. I wrote letters of complaint, demanded a replacement, etc. and was given an attitude that made me want to take out a full page ad in every tech magazine saying to stay away from Sony products. Obnoxious and worthless - that's my opinion of sony service and the sony vaio.
My dell, however, has given me very little trouble - and their tech support is efficient, pleasant and professional. Personally, I'd say go for a dell. If you do need support, they'll happily provide it.
