i really dont think johnny depp doesnt look like freddie at all and i dont think he could pull it off. he made a character actor but he play freddie please!like freddie would ever think of him playing him. he probably would say edward scirrors hands playing me "bloody hell" i think the guy who should play him should be british so there is a orignal london accent there. sorry brian i dont agree with you on this one. i like johnny depp but to have him play freddie i just dont think so. he was perfect and willy wonka and the character of the john waters movies but not freddie. thats my piece. have a happy xmas people |

I was really hoping this wouldn't happen, because while Johnny is a decent actor.. he's in *everything* and unlike Meryl Streep, I don't think he can disappear into a role and have the audience forget it's him anymore.. too much exposure. So my vote goes to Meryl Streep. She's a little old but I think she could pull it off, and she could do her own singing. |

While, sceptical i think JD would do a fantastic job...the audience may not get over the Johnny depp thing, but he CAN DEFFINETLY loose himself in a role and play anything. Honestly Johhny Depp is one of, if not THE most talented actor in the biz today. and no i am not just one of the "jack sparrow" fan boys, i have been a fan of Depp since 21 jump street. |

What I find interesting is that Brian has made a note of this on his website. He says: ----Christina Zinner asked about a news report in the Mail On Sunday, 17 December.... SEE LETTERS "Yes, I saw this ... The truth is ... Discussions are at an early stage .... I don't know where this story came from, but I think someone in the media, as usual, has taken a punt ... of course these opportunists have little to lose ... who cares about truth these days? Certainly not the tabloid press. But you're right about one thing ... Johnny Depp is fantastic. He would be a worthy counterpart for Freddie on screen. I don't think I can say any more right now. love Bri" So, very interesting development, methinks. Doesn't really say anything about JD. But the idea of a Freddie biopic. Interesting. I wonder if they could make a 2 to 2 hours and 30 mins film treatment. Depends what they want to tell, I suppose. But something like Ray would be great. Let's face it, though... No-one is gonna be happy with whoever gets the lead cause, as witnessed above, it's too close to their hearts. Adam. |

i think he is a great actor but perfoming freddie...i don't think it would be a good choice.by the way i think it's really hard.but if i had to suggest someone i would say the boy who played "Galileo" in WWRY (British version).and i agree HE SHOULD BE BRITISH. |

They SHOULD go for the leadsinger of the amazing Queen coverband : "Dios salva a la reina" who performed at the convention this year...he is a clone of Freddie, same body, hair, muscles, moves, sounds, expression, eyes, everything...i can't imagine Depp comes closer to Freddie than this youngster....Brian John and Roger really should reconcider..... |

Johnny Depp would be an excellent Freddie. Why? Because he will bring millions of people to the box office to pay respects to the frontman of my favorite band, and that's good enough for me. The end. |

Case-in-point being the other biopics that have used either original recordings with similar sounding people or otherwise. Another great example would be Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. They got an actor who also had an amazing physique and tought him how to fight. They say in the documentary that you can't do it the other way round, i.e. you can't take a fighter and teach him/her how to act. What's important is what they bring to the role and how they handle the character. Not how they look or sound. I can't think of a more frightening thing than seeing someone who may look and sound like Fred (fat chance), but then slaughters the acting part of it. That would be the real injustice. Adam. |

Well, here's my take... I think Johnny Depp is a great actor...I'm not a big fan of alot of his movies, save a few. However that being said, he's a very versatile actor who really could pull damn near anything short of playing scrabble with his teeth, and even then who knows?? Point being...I think that he would be a fine actor to pull it off, and if there's anyone who could do it, it would be him. This movie is going to be a long one if you think about it...I'm thinking in the tune of 3 hours or so...watch. Look at the movie The Doors that came out years ago...nobody thought Val Kilmer could do it, but when you watch that movie, it's very easy to see Jim Morrison being played by Val Kilmer, not Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison. Give Johnny a chance...he may surprise all of us (myself included!!) |

well im sure of the fans of the other bio pic of the rock star movies pretty much they all look like the star. for examples: richie valens- lou diamond phillips(labama)looked like the real richie somewhat except he was skinnyer than the real one. jarry lee lewis- dannis quaid(great balls of fire)looked like him and the hair was great. buddy holly- gary busey(the buddy holly story)looked like him two infact he was nomitated for a oscar for that role. jim morrison- val kilmer(the doors) oh my god it was like jim was alive! even the band members called him jim. it was like val was reancardinated as jim morrison. ray charles- jamie fox(ray)one of the most recent bio pics. another one that captured ray charles. and also won an golden globe and an oscar tina turner- angela bassett(i think that is her name)(whats love got to do with it)she look like tina for the most part. johnny cash-joaquin phoenix(walk the line)wasnt a total match but he sang all of the songs in the movie and it was a oscar worthy and nomitated for it. so that person who said who cares if they dont look like the actual person is wrong. there is difference if the person looks like the singer who he or she is trying to protray. |

About if whoeverthefuck looks like Freddie : There is this thing called MAKEUP (which is very sophisticated nowadays with what they can do). And - they don't have to be a "clone" - a good actor is needed to convince the people for so long that they "are" Freddie. Picking a wonderful clone who is a shitty actor would be a bad move. Sure, you may get some rabid Queen fannies to get up and see it - but why would anyone else care to see it (unless they're going to see a double train wreck - a story where the shitty actor you don't care about dies of AIDS) ? Sure, don't hire someone who looks NOTHING like him. Get a close enough match. But lining up people and finding who looks more like Freddie is a worthless pursuit that will most likely result in a movie that you may want to look at stills of, but not go watch and hear. And second... I don't see why it matters if the actor is "English". HEL-FUCKING-LO - Freddie wasn't even "English". Yes, he had an accent. Hooray. I think a decent actor with a good coach could accomplish the same thing. I don't care if it's Johnny Depp. I don't even like the idea of this movie being made at all. I DO think, that if it's going to happen - they should care more about making a good product than finding a Freddie-clone. And yes, Johnny is Deep. I'm not sure how deep the movie would be going, but I'm sure it would be penetrating nonetheless. |

That is one movie I will never go and see. Not because of Johnny Depp or whoever would play the lead role, but because you cannot reduce Freddie to a two-hour time slot or an HBO special 4- or 6-hours. However, if it brought new Queen fans into the fold, that would be a good thing. I wouldn't want to see an imitation of John, Roger, and Brian either. This topic did cause me to pop in my 3-volume, one-hour each, vhs's of The Magic Years. I love the snippets of each of the four talking, comments by others including many rock music stars, short clips of numerous concerts; and, of course, the in-studio taping of the process creating One Vision is pure gold. Heck, for my penny, you could splice those three together, show them on the big screen, and save some film production company 40 million dollars - as it has already been done. |

Allright, to all you people that say "it CANT be Johnny Depp, Johnny isnt BRITISH! OMG!!!! He wont have a REAL original london accent, OMG!!! Um, HATE to break this to you, but Freddie wasnt BRITISH either. He DIDNT have an original london accent. He adopted the life-style and the accent of a british (londoner) person. So, thats like saying to Leonardo DeCaprio, "Oh my LORD, you cant be in BLOOD DIAMOND, You're NOT SOUTH AFRICAN!!! NEXT!! He did a fantastic job pulling off the accent I must say. Theyre proffesional actors, theyre trained to pick up accents. Who gives a rats ass if Johnny Depp isnt british. |

i think that it would be a great idea to make a freddie biopic with johnny DEPP in it, but i don't that's it's right to do it. freddie wanted to keep his whole life private, and even after his death, he intended to keep it private. making this biopic would not be respectful to freddie's decision to remain private. if he spent his whole life trying to keep everything on the down low and many years after his death, there'd be a movie regarding his whole life, then his efforts are put to waste. |

I think that JD will do a good job. He will never be the same as Freddie OBVIOUSLY but if anyone could get within 100 miles I think it might be him. I think he will do well in this role because I don't think he will over act it as many people probably would. There that is my 2 cents P.S. I'm sure there are other actors/actresses out there who could do a good job but for the selection they had I think Brian, Roger, and John made a good choice. |

Johnny just doesn't have the look or the right physique for the part. I don't know of any known actor who would be right. Probaly will bring in an unknown actor. The first time I saw "That 70's Show" about 8 years ago, I thought "that Kelso guy looks a lot like Freddie Mercury". Ashton Kutcher has done at least two serious filme roles, with a speech coach, he could get the accent down. He's the right age for Freddie's younger days, and they could age him some for the later years. |

And I couldn't really see Depp playing Freddie (Secret Window and Edward Scissorhands kept coming to mind), but that pic is great.
