Hey everybody, Just for the hell of it, what do you think is the most missunderstood thing about Queen? This should get some interesting responses. Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and I look forward to your opinions... Cheers! Steve |
7 seas of Rhye 17.12.2006 16:41 |
Well a lot of people think they are all gay. So thats a misunderstanding. Also people think they are either a rock band or a pop band but they do all types of music so you can't really label them. |
Deacon Fan 17.12.2006 18:36 |
That they were British. I believe a in a court case a few years back, they were unable to prove their Britishnicity. Just one more piece of the puzzle which will eventually prove definitively that Queen were comprised of extraterrestrials. Brian's "interest" in space dust is not just a coincidence my friends. |

I feel your pain Anna, America has totally forgotten what good music is. It is pathetic that everybody knows who Paul McCartney is, they know who John Lennon was, and they know who Gene Simmons is yet all they can say about Queen is that this guy in the band died of AIDS because he was queer. It shouldn't anger me, but the fact that they were four fantastic musicians who were in some ways more talented than even The Beatles or KISS upsets me. A lot of people just don't understand just how great Queen was and how much chemistry their was. I just hope the band isn't forgotten completely one day. I'd love to know that Queen will be in text books one day just as we read Mozart in music books today. I would love to know that Freddie Mercury will not be forgotten in a 100 years. That's just my opinion, some people might disagree... |

Who knows? But I hate to do a music related search (for concert tickets, or on VH1, iTunes or even TIVO) and find everything else with Queen in the name. Queen should be at the top of those search results. That gets tiring. The individual members other than Freddie are not as famous as they should be. For example, on our local radio station they were giving away a guitar signed by Brian May. Instead of saying just "Brian May" and people knowing, they had to say "Brian May of Queen". This sort of bugs me. |

Yeah, i'd agree with people thinking that they're all gay. Well, Queen aren't the most masculine band, are they? There's Brian with his lovely, curly, beautifully kept hair. There's Roger with his lovely, womanly blonde hair and his occasions of dressing up as women. There's John with his various different hair styles he simply always has to change, plus his lovely pinky, shorty-short shorts he wears. And of course, Our darling diva, Freddie. Very effeminate band indeed. So, yeah, you can see why people misunderstand them as gay. :P |

i dont think people think they're all gay - qhat about queens of the stone age, it wasn't just freddie thinking of having something weird!! queen sums up royalty, and the aids thing just aids to the band...makes em cool cos singer is dead... no one really believes they are all gay - would a guitarist like brian may be really gay, no chance!!! people listen to the music freddie or brian will never be in the same league as paul and john lennon...why?? not too sure, prob because the beatles were the first...big deal, americans FUCKED UP irag, they've also got it wrong on queen |

Freddie was said to have had sex with 4 or 5 women in his life, the last time this happened was late 1983, early 1984, and hadn't banged Mary since the mid-70's. Same sources estimate before Freddie settle down to a monogamous relationship with Hutton, he was the top and bottom to the tune of 3,000-4,000 men as Phoebe claims it was not uncommon when he first became Fred's personal assist. for Fred to literally wear out 3 men, and be calling out to Phoebe to go get him "2 more hunks." Just a hunch.... but I'd say our Freddie was somewhat homosexual. Once Freddie came to terms with his homosexuality, I think he was about as sexually turned on by women as Donald Trump is to Rosie O'Donell. |

NOW, here's one that pisses me off (Sometimes, sometimes I like it though), when they are about to play a Queen song on a classic radio station here in New Hampshire (Q106), they, most of the time, introduce the song ... example "Here's FREDDIE MERCURY AND THE BOYS with ONE VISION"... that's how they usually introduce the songs. Now I know that they know he's in Queen, (It says it on the CDs and vinyls they play), and they talk about Queen often (My area is actually big on Queen, AOBTD is the local school anthem)... but Freddie, and Brian a bit less, are known as 'Queen'... I've heard both mentioned on my radio station, but not John or Roger. |

As a teenager, surrounded by people with severly lacking music tastes, they come up with some intressting misunderstandings: 1) The most common, is that every member of queen was gay... and so many of Queen songs they do recognise are gay anthems!!! 2) The most, well, intressting, they were a bunch of transexuals??? PAthetic, I know 3) They couldnt sing... 5) Queen songs arent "heavy", I know a song dosnt need to be heavy to be good, but when I played Sheer Heart Attack, Brian May's solo Resurrection, Brighton Rock and Modern Times Rock and Roll, while the heaviest, had no ideae Queen wrote such music. THey thought it was all soft rock with pianos (which is just as good, and if not better!) 4) They didnt write the songs, and this is the most concerning. I meet people who think McFly wrote Don't Stop me Now, and more often G4 wrote Bohemiman Rhapsody, everyone knows The Show must go on, but dont realise that Queen wrote it, and similarlly with another one bites the dust, tie your mother down, take my breath away (this is forgiveable, I suppose), we will rock you and we are the champions. Todays ignorant youth. Hopefully the new Queen+PR album might try and reverse some of the ideas above (but please dont let this thread turn into a debate on the new album just because of that comment) |

There's a MTV program here in Brazil called "Top Top", where they list the "top 10 something".. Last program was about the "top 10 gayest people in the music world".. Freddie was #6... Among the things they said were TRUE and added to prove Freddie's gayness: 1) Bohemian Rhapsody IS a gay anthem. They even translated from the beginning till "carry on, carry on", and said, "isn't it so gay??" 2) Freddie wrote many , many gay anthems, besides BoRhap. The most outstanding example is "I Want to Break Free" 3) To promote a "certain" Queen album (they didn't say it was Jazz. Maybe to not incite young minds to go listen to the band?), Freddie threw a big party, where haermaphrodit dwarves were serving the guests cocaine and drinks on plates on their heads, allright, there's a RUMOR about it, but how can they broadcast it's the most true truth in the world? 4) AND, on the same party, there were hookers (both male and female) giving head for free in the bathrooms... now this one i had never of This is MTV, helping everyone to cast a laugh on good bands and performers... |

In my opinion it's their own Management (QP) who's the one to blame! Instead of releasing Queen's essential 70's Concerts on DVD (Earls Court'77 , Houston'77, Hammy'75 and so on..) , they just release another "new" Greates Hits collection every year. Would you, if you don't know Queen, realize that Brian is one of the best Guitar Players in the world by hearing "Radio Gaga" or "Another one Bites the Dust"? I don't think so. Other Groups like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin or The Who releasing Concerts DVD's who show these Bands in their prime. LedZep's DVD charted in the Top Ten in Germany when it first came out, I wonder what people, who just know "Stairway to heaven", thought about this Band when they see Jimmy Page during "Dazed and Confused". Or Purples 30Min. take of "Space Truckin'" on their "Machine Head Live" DVD. (Deep Purple?? Aren't these the Guys with Sssmmmooookkkee on the Wwwaaaattteeerr??? ;-) QP should really do something to prove the World that Queen are more than 4 Guys with cheesy 80's Pop Videos, Moustaches and Synth-Pop. It makes me really sad as a loyal Fan to see my favourite Band in that kind of light... |

Just cos he had girlfriends back in the day doesn't mean he was bi, just that he was kinda straight then before becoming fully gay.
