The next album is going to be produced by Rick Rubin, and it's widely rumored that it will have a punk edge to it.
I'd have to wait and see. MetallicA covered some punk tunes on Garage Days, and it sounded pretty damn good.
Mr. Jingles, you're not talking about Metallica are you? I hope not...a punk edge? What the hell are they thinking? What ever happened to the good old days? You know, Master of Puppets, Damage INC, Enter Sandman, and all those other classics?
I have to say I did enjoy St. Anger. I thought they had some really great tunes on the album, regardless of how they recorded it. It sort of sounded like a garage band...which is literally how they recorded I think..well not in a garage...but you get the point. If you watch the DVD that comes with St. Anger you'll see what I mean. They actually recorded each track as if it were a live recording. Their weren't that many over dubs. In a way I respected that...but if now they're going into a punk phase I've lost all hope.
So I really hope you are talking about somebody else...not Metallica. I love Metallica, they're my favorite rock band next to Queen.
