There's a lot of communist hypocrites out there. If communism stands for the ultimate strict norms of equality, that means that a government will have the right to take away everything you've worked for and achieved. Take for instance Maradona. Claims to be a strong supporter of extreme leftists, but if someone took away all his millions away he'd start whinning like a little bitch. Like if that wasn't enough Maradona is always complaining about the pressure of the corporate capitalist upper class over the working class and the poor. Yet, he didn't mind spending tons of money on dope which instead of doing more damage to his own health, would help a lot more if it was spent on helping people in need. Rage Against The Machine is another fine example of leftist hypocrisy. If these guys were so anti-capitalist, then how come they're signed to Sony, one of the largest corporations on earth. Sony as well as most major record labels does not give a fuck what the message is in the album as long as it sells. RATM truly made the Machine even more powerful and rich than before. |

"Clear" communism and its goals are a little bit different to what you wrote. The problem is that there has never been any country with "clear" communism. We had so-called "leninism" over here which have a lof of differences to real communism. For instance, there's no place for what we call as government in real leninism-communism, so no-one "will take away everything you're worked for and achieved" - power is in the hands of so-called Soviets (that's why we were Soviet Union) which is something like local Parliament in each territory. And on other hand - communism says that we all achieved the same for our jobs, no matter who you are - a bus driver or tycoon (or Paris Hilton who's doing nothing at all except home porn videos). You all judge about communism by what you saw in the Soviet Union, but we have never had communism here actually. |

And I always thought that Maradona would take over Cuba... ...after losing some more weight... and after Fidel´s death of course!!! ;-) PS: Death to McDonalds... venceremos!!! :-) |

I support absolute freedom over absolute equality. I believe that everyone is entitled to property rights, and that he may take any action that does not infringe upon the rights of others. He also has no duty to anyone but himself (that is, DUTY, not that he SHOULDN'T, or is UNABLE TO). That makes me classically liberal, which in turn makes me "conservative" when concerning that particular issue. Ultimately, it means that I support Capitalism, and am against Communism. All those "liberal-conservative" labels really don't mean anything - to me, anyway. |
Mr.Jingles 15.12.2006 12:35 |
Serry, I never mentioned anything bad about the Soviet Union. I've never lived there so I won't discuss it, but now that you're mentioning that things there were not as bad as extreme right wing propaganda claims they are, then I'd take your word for it. Let me just remind everyone that I despise the extreme left as much as the extreme right. I do think that people should be rewarded for the work and effort in order to achieve self progress, but I also agree that there should exist minimal norms of equality for all, and those who achieve more wealth should be taxed more than those on the lower levels of social class. It's the government's responsibility to spend the taxpayer's money on social programs for the direct benefit of the society, and not weapons to secure the power of the government itself. |

I'm politically apathetic, but I go both ways on certain issues. I'm very liberal when it comes to social programs and things like that, but very conservative when it comes to government control and interfearence. I just think that people aught to be left alone to live their lives without a lot of messy policing by the government. But, the government has a duty to support its citizens and make sure they have access to things like health care and things like that no matter the circumstances. I'm just strange. :-) |

I'm a social democrat, so left... I fight for more equality, but not for absolute equality... The ideas of Marx were too extreme, and didn't work in the end. I'm pro abortion, legalisation of soft drug and gay marriage though. |

I'm just strange. :-)Sounds pretty much like classical liberalism to me. Join the club. It's known as Libertarianism these days, but that usually implies a negativity or insignificance for some reason. Also, Jingles made the point of a minimum level of equality, and I agree with this. But I'm not sure which way to approach it, since welfare is pretty much inherently abused. I would normally say, "Well, fuck it. I don't care. I couldn't care less if the government took a little out of my paycheck to give to the indigent. More power to them." But then I realized something. Welfare actually hinders society, and does nothing to relieve poverty, but likely only increases it. |
AspiringPhilosophe 17.12.2006 03:04 |
And MusicMan has identified the party I've voted for in the last two elections....The Libertarians. So people said I "threw away" my vote...who gives a damn? Nothing changes between the two parties anyway, so it doesn't matter who you vote for, but how you vote on referrendum type issues that matter the most. Having a mother in the health care field, and having been very close to being needing of welfare myself, I see the importance for these programs. But I agree with MusicMan that they are abused. Welfare is a good concept, as long as it's going to the right people. Like, when I was in danger of needing to get it, I couldn't get any kind of assistance at all. Why? Because I was in college, they assumed my parents were helping me (which they were only doing because I'd have starved to death otherwise). But when I tried to get income based housing...nope, can't give it to you. But I was out there, working my butt off more than forty hours and week and attending university 15 credit hours a semester, making myself better for myself, and inherantly, for society. But had I dropped out of university, had a couple of kids and become a total deadweight to society, they'd have given me all kinds of money and assistance. Explain to me how much sense that makes. Welfare needs to go to the people who need it, the people who are trying to better themselves and their society. As far as medical care goes, everyone should have access to it, no matter what the situation. It's the governments job to protect the life of it's citizens (that's why we have armies and such), and this is no different. |

I've been brought up in a very politically charged family (Nana was on the Council, Great Uncle Charlie and Great Grandad were Mayors and Great Aunty Kath's husbands brother was Rt Hon Sir Keith Holyoak, Prime Minister) so with all that I'm extremly Left-Wing, Liberal, Labour Party supporter what ever you want to call it. In my country (wow, that sounded like Borat) the right-wing voters are usually the farmers and the christians/catholics, and everyone else is left-wing. |
