Does anyone else here have an anxiety disorder? I've had severe anxiety for the past like five or six years. In August it got so bad I had to be put on medications for it. I'd get panic attacks that would last throughout the day... and I'd be really shaky, I could hardly walk, and I'd basically lay in bed all day. I'd refuse to go places and would basically stay indoors. Well this past summer, in August, my anxiety got to the point where I could hardly go to the doctors. All my friends were wondering why I'd pace back and forth, and be all shaky. I couldn't sit down, I'd be fidgeting, and I'd try to sleep as much as I can but I'd wake up. I also have a fear of dizziness, so it'd cause it, if I thought of dizziness, I'd feel dizzy. I'd also worry about my health... I can't count how many times I've thought I'd had cancer, appendicitis, brain tumors, or even AIDS. I couldn't even drive much anymore. I used to leave the state every other weekend, but I totally stopped it, and I've been in the same state for quite a while. The medication I'm on right now (Lorazapam) will not work for long... it's a temporary medication until I see an anxiety specialist, so I'll have to switch to something else, and I hope I don't have to take the next medication too long as I'm against it, but I was totally in need of it as I was having many anxiety issues. Sometimes I had so much anxiety, if I needed to piss, I'd grab a cup and piss in it, as I didn't want to leave my room. I stopped eating as well... I hardly ate anything. I lost 60 lbs... and a lot of it was muscle. My attitude was snappish as I was always upset and dealing with all this, that I just didn't want to talk, or listen to anything. I couldn't even sit at a computer for more than 5 minutes. My anxiety also caused me to think people don't exhist and I don't exhist either. It was like I was awake, but in a dream. I'd look at my hands and think "What is up with that?". It also has to deal with growing up. Both my sisters had children and I knew I was growing up and I am in a relationship and it was hard to believe how fast life is going by. I think too much as well and I'm curious about everything. Things seemed un-real. But when I watched television things seemed normal. I also wore sunglasses all the time and would (if I had to) only go out at night, and I basically couldn't stand the day time, even the hours (not just the light). The first day I was on my medication, I was out of state actually, I was in Vermont as their was this fair my family went to and to visit some relatives. I took my medication up there and I didn't know the side-effects and I hadn't ate or anything so it hit me good. I went with my girlfrined to go get something to eat and she parked the car and I was waiting in the car and she found me walking down the middle of the street smoking a cigarette and drinking soda. I was so out of it! Since I've been on medication I've been a lot better. I can take it up to three times a day, but only once a day as I don't want to become addicted. I can't say my anxiety is fully gone when I'm on it, because there's bad days and good days. I hope it'll be gone someday. Does anyone else have any anxiety disorders? PS - I was diagnosed with severe anxiety when I was like 14... I was put on Zoloft but it didn't help me much. In fact, I think that shit messed me up, so I stopped it after a while. |

I have anxiety attacks. Unfortunately, I also have A.D.D. and therefore was unable to read your whole post. But, I do know this much. I also take lorazepam/adivan, but ONLY WHEN I'M HAVING AN ATTACK! I don't think you're supposed to take it regularly, and if you do not for very long. My doctor monitors me closely on it and is constantly warning me that it can be a highly dependent drug. You should be careful. (i don't really have ADD by the way xD) |

I'm well aware. I have to take it for this long... due to the fact it takes three months to see an anxiety specialist here. |

There's no such thing as A.D.D. Only shit you don't give a fuck paying attention to. |

My daughter has Inattentive ADD and takes Focalin XR 15mg once per day. Her first grade teacher was the first one to tell me in October of that school year (2004) she had "concerns" about her ability to keep up with curriculum. We started the observation process then. I talked with her Pediatrician and told him her teacher's concerns. First he wanted to rule out hearing or vision problems. She was fine there. Then she was tested for speech & language comprehension skills. She was fine there. Then she was tested by a diagnostic team in the school district for a learning disability. Her IQ was 114 and there were no gaps between her achievement scores and her IQ, so no learning disability. Her doctor her me, my husband, and her teacher fill out what is called a Vanderbilt Scale. After he intrepreted the results of the scales and considered all of the other information pertaining to this, we talked about medication and a diagnosis in December 2005. My husband and I talked it over and we decided to try the medication. He was against it but since I work in education and I have seen success stories, plus I totally trust her doctor, I was willing to do whatever I needed to for her to succeed. She's been taking Focalin XR ever since December of 2005 and her reading level has jumped two grade levels and she is a grade level above in Math. In a matter of a year she has gone from being below grade level to right up with her peers and in other subjects, above her peers. Her confidence level has skyrocketed. She knows now that she can do the work that is front of her whereas before she just couldn't sort out things and could not focus. I couldn't even give her a simple one step command that she could follow through with. For example in the morning I'd tell her, "get up, go potty, brush your hair, brush your teeth, get dressed." She'd maybe get through the get up and pee part. The rest...forget it. I could only give her one direction at a time, wait for her to complete the task I gave her then give her a new one. I know medication isn't for every child but for mine it has made a world of difference. We have several students that take Ativan daily. In the students that take it that I see on a regular basis, I'm not a fan of it. But I am not a dr. and I can't act like an expert. Jake, I hope your anxiety attacks are able to be controlled. It's not right for your doctor to make you wait that long to be able to see him. You need to be able to live your life. |

Silly as it may sound, and probably rejected by the medical community.. I traced my anxiety problems down to a mercury filling combined with using a ton of NutraSweet (aspartame) products. Got rid of that filling and stopped using diet stuff and my attacks virtually disappeared. Now, I'm still prone to have them on occasion but I've gotten to the point where I feel them coming on and hang on to my sanity enough to fight them off, with walking and breathing exercises. Here's some guides to breathing techniques which sometimes help.. or you can look them up yourself.. link There was a great site I had bookmarked at one time which explained why physical symptoms seem to get worse and worse when you're having an attack.. such as being anxious leads to tightening up which in turn causes pain in the chest.. it made a lot of sense but I've lost that link. |

I almost told my mom to take me to the doctor to have my blood checked, even though I hate needles. :0 I don't have any advice, but everyone here seems to have been of help. I really hope you overcome this! |

I've never had anxiety, but I do have diagnosed depression and have been on medication for that in the past. Even though some people will say these diseases are "all in your head" or "they don't exist" it does. I hope you get this under control...no one should have to live like that. |

Yeah my anxiety sucks. With Lorazepam it helps a lot but not completely and I don't think anything will. |
