The Hollywood Records label has used various logos over a certain period of time. Who could please give me details of which logo was used in what period?
e.g.
- the globe + palm tree from 1991-199?
- the black disc with black text from 199? - 200?
- the black square with white letters from 200? - 200?
etc.
I am interested in this information, because HR had had (re-)released cds various times and the logo is an indication if it is a first pressing or not.
I have searched the HR website and various other websites, but to no avail...
Thanks for your help.
To the best of my knowledge:
I know the palm tree/globe was used on everything up to the US "At The BBC" in early 1995 (I think, I don't have mine handy). Made in Heaven has the Black circle logo, and I think The Greatest Hits I,II & III US edition from 2002 or 2003 was the first to have the new logo.
Hope this helps.
Yes, it helps! Thank you.
The logo on the At The BBC album is slightly different. No palm tree/globe, but just text: the letters of the word "Hollywood" seem to "bounce"/"dance" (I hope this makes sense...). This album and the MFSL versions of ANATO, ADATR, NOTW and Game are the only albums that have that kind of letters. Those MFSL albums came out in 1991-1993.
The funny thing is that the advance promo cassette of At The BeeB/BBC (Hollywood Records release) still has the palm tree/globe logo (and the original title)! link
Hollywood Records in the US and Canada from 1990 to 1994 had Elektra distribution. Then in late 1994/early 1995 PolyGram bought Hollywood from Elektra (A&M (which PolyGram bought in 1989) became Hollywood's distributor in Canada) and the logo changed I think at the behest of PolyGram. Then in 1998, PolyGram was bought out by Universal-Vivendi and then in 2002, Hollywood changed the look of the label.
In fact, Queen are the only veteran rock band still on the label today.
