15years today Freddie died. It really seems like yesterday. Still sadens me.
Anyway i was wondering what anyone else thought. When i saw Queen live up to 84 they they were a fantastic, incredible, life changing live band
When i went to see em at live aid the crowd were absolutely buzzing after theyd been on stage. As a fan i was used to that level of performance and i was really suprised how crazy everyone went for them the next day.
Now i saw them 5 times in 86 and that had been replaced by something else completely different.
They seemed to be on auto-pilot. Thats probably harsh.
Dont get me wrong they were still very good but 2 of the times i saw them on that tour they were literally a complete waste of money, they seemed to lack energy and any form of spark whatsoever.
I must say though that Knebworth and the 1st night at Wembley they were particularly good. But even on both those nights they werent a patch on the gigs id seen them on previous tours.
Maybe it was the choice of setlist, maybe it was due to the gigs being outdoors i dont know.
I was wondering if anybody felt the same thing??

I kind of understand what you're saying. However, I really couldn't help you because I wasn't even born yet in 1986. I do have all the official concerts the band released on DVD and I have noticed that the band sounded different at Wembley. However, I couldn't really say they lacked energy. Maybe a little, but it wasn't that bad. As I understand it, the A Kind of Magic tour was a huge success for Queen. It also contained some very memorable moments (Knebworth, Wembly, ETC).
When its all said and done, Queen were still a better live band than a lot of others even when they were at an all time low.
I never saw them live, but one of the aspects that you must consider is that the first time it´s the one you´ll remember!
After five or six times, the magic is loose!
Now, i went to see the Queen+Paul Rodgers in Lisbon last year. It was the first time i saw Brian and Roger in person, so i was completely hypnotised.
If i went to five or six concerts i would get fed up with them!!- Or maybe not.
From my point of view, the Magic tour was perfect for Stadiums. And Knebworth must have been pure magic!
But, yes compared to other tours they seemed to be on auto-pilot. Almost every concert has the same vibe, but looking back it wasn´t a bad thing. They just didn´t expect people to attend 2 or 3 of their shows ; )
Take care
I saw them in '86 but I didn't notice any lack of energy or auto-pilot or anything like that. They were great. Maybe you caught them on a bad night...? I mean hey...it happens ;-)Or perhaps you saw them too often and got too critical..that can happen too ;-)
