Morning All,
I recently managed to track down an original (and near mint) copy of this bootleg. Very hard to find these days and big bucks! A friend of mine bought this while we were in senior school 26 years ago but sold it later on. He regrets it now.
As most of you will know, its such a great sounding bootleg (amazing for the shed that is Wembley Arena anyway!) and a great performance from the 8th December 1980. Not being that impressed with the remastered CD release 'Standing On The Arena', I had the vinyl professionally cleaned and have transferred it into WAV files using a USB turntable. I'm really pleased with the result.
Down to my question, does anybody know if the original tape source for this bootleg still exists? It would be fantastic to track it down and get it properly engineered. A friend of mine runs one of the best Led Zeppelin bootleg labels in Japan and the engineer he uses always does an excellent job.
Anyway, I'd be interested in the history of this recording (who made the recording, etc) if anybody knows after all these years.
Best Wishes,
Keith.
Sure thing Ducksoup!
By the way, I used to own a copy of the vinyl Duck Soup bootleg. My Brother-In-Law now lives in Seattle and we were over there a few weeks ago to visit him. Way up near the San Juan Islands (which border Canada), I saw a guest house called the Duck Soup lodge; it made me smile. I asked his partner, who is a life long resident, what the significance of DS was but she had never heard of it. The creativity of bootleggers, eh?
Cheers,
Keith.

Unfortunately, the original tape has never turned up.
Would you mind posting a sample of your remastered recording? I and a few others here would definitely be interested in hearing how it turned out.
Your connection to a LZ Japanese bootleg label sounds interesting. Which one is it? Is there any LZ bootleg news these days? There have been a lot of new releases this year, but not a lot of great ones, like the past couple years.
