A film tribute to rock band Queen is being produced, prompting a battle between the biggest showbiz names desperate to be cast as the late Freddie Mercury. The We Will Rock You musical which features the band's hits, has been a massive success. But this movie is the first ever attempt to document the charismatic singer's life. Mercury died of an Aids related illness in 1991. The surviving members of the band - Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - will all be involved in the project. Guitarist May says, "There is a film in the pipeline and we're all involved in it. "I'm not allowed to say much about it and casting isn't finalised but we've had some incredible offers to play Freddie. Really incredible." link Submitted by: mickyparise |

LOL @ Both radio_ and Serry! ;-))) Ah, squeeze Curry into a leotard and he'll be fine. And do you think that Nathalie would also do some concert-footage? From, like, the second half of the show when Freddie would take off his upper parts?? :-P |

Whoever plays freddie is going to have to continually lose a lot of weight for about the last 50 minutes of the movie or so, around the miracle and innuendo years. |

John has retired from the music industry, not from life all together!! If a film is made, im sure he will be involved in some way or another, no matter how small. John was a big part of Queen, so IMO he will be involved. It is pessimistic to think otherwise. Matt. |

Matt.i second that When Brian says us, he usually refers to Roger Taylor and Jim Beach. Why wold John be involved in this?- I mean, why do they need John to do the movie? His input isn´t necessary at all. Don´t get me wrong, i would love to see John in the same room as Brian and Roger, but that doesn´t seems to be the case. They hardly speak to each other!- But they write beautifull letters : )) Take care |

John was a Part of Queen and was very close to Freddie so why not be involved? He wrote songs they sang and just because he is not involved now does not mean he would not want to see and be ivolved in a Movie about Freddie, hopefully it will be done tastefully and not focus on his sickness and sex life. |
Deacons 1st Choice 12.11.2006 20:31 |
Hmmm... That would be nice.... But i actually have a hard time believing he would personally want to get involved in a film about Freddie's life. It was hard enough for him to deal with the Tribute Concert on a emotional level.....so i find it hard to imagine him throwing himself back into that pool of the past. Would be nice to know he was involved. It would be even better if he played "himself" in the movie! Imagine that: John Deacon- Movie Star! Very nice.... |

I think Johnny Depp would be good at doing Freddie's speaking voice and mannerisms. Also, he still hasn't aged at all. So, you really could just add a wig and eye makeup, and he could easily be the 1970's Freddie. Also, Johnny Depp has that intense look in his eye when he is serious, the same "it" factor that Freddie had, and a very exotic look to him that would really work. Fine features and exotic look, slim body, perfect. I think they would have to use Freddie's voice for any singing in the movie. If John Deacon became involved in this project, it would not surprise me at all. I think he especially would want to see the project done really well. |

I agree that Johnny Depp would be the perfect choice to play FM. He is probably the most adventures actor and will be willing to go outside the Hollywood mainstream to do the movie. A real professional and a very good choice! As for Brian I think Orlando Bloom might be a good choice. (Hazel contact lenses) Roger Hmmm that's a challenge Maybe someone new John maybe a newcomer as well. Cheers, ROCKMAMA |
