I need someone that actally plays guitar really well to settle something for me, although I don't play all that great I am having an arguement with my roommate about the chord progression on Tie Your Mother Down, the way I play it is G, D, C, and G before going back to the A... he claims it is G, D, C and B... and whenever he plays it I want to cry.. LOL.. so.. am I closer or is he?
thanks..
You're closest Mike, and basically right. If your mate plays a full B chord (B, D#, F#) it would sound horrendous. In fact, even a B5 would sound bad.
The actual guitar chord progression is most closely described as:
G5, D, C5add9, G/B, A5.
You win.
Tie Your Mother Down verse progression goes as follows...A5 (hammer "C" on and off), G, D/F#, Cadd9, G/B...You are the closest to being right. Cheers...
Give it a good old TWANG! Mike... any old notes, any chords, after a bottle of vodka, and you won't give a damn!!!
Does that help?
Bohardy was more helpful than me I fear.

I tried that and I must say my guitar playing improved greatly.. wow.. thanks for the great advice Greg.. lol.. I am thinking of putting that recording on QZ for all to hear.. ;p
believe it or not... I really am NOT that picky when it comes to playing the guitar.. but my when my room mate hits that one chord I wince in pain as he claims it is correct.. I tell him.. LISTEN to the song.. it is soo NOT right.. lol
Oh well.. what can I expect from someone that worships DICK WAGNER.. lol (former guitar player for Alice Cooper and the man that wrote "welcome to my nightmare", "Only Women Bleed" and others for him)
Megamike...
Good luck with finding the right chords.
I've been learning chords myself this past year, but am lightyears behind you guys. I only mess about to help unwind sometimes, but I admire anyone who sticks with the massive uphill task of learning Queen music on guitar. I take heart in the fact that in just 45 years time I will know how to play several great solos pretty well! IfI live that long.
