according to todays daily express newspaper brian is quoted as saying that a hollywood production on the life of freddie mercury is currently in the pipeline and brian is involved with it. now the question is who would we like to play freddie, brian, roger and john in this movie? i would choose johnny depp for freddie but the others i dont have a clue with.... |

Definitely Johnny Depp, he looks quite like Freddie I think, especially his way of behaving sometimes... He could play the clip of 'I'm going slightly mad' very well, I'm sure.. |

The idea of a movie like that just makes me feel ill... Knowing this "Hollywood" beast, I just dearly hope it's not too tasteless or overly doting upon things they think will get an award (if they even care about that) - like that AIDS thing. If they're going to do it and go through his personal life, they might as well go all the way and present him as an actual person - good and bad, and not just a scandalous story. I think it would be great if people walked away thinking they saw something they weren't supposed to. Maybe being grateful for their own privacy. But fuck that, Hollywood will do whatever it damn well pleases. On a more shallow note, if they do this, I would love if Johnny Depp played him. Depp is a fantastic actor. And that jumps out in my mind before any phsyical resemblances. Actors, I think shouldn't be picked on a he-looks-like-him basis, sure that should certainly be considered, but there's always the magic of make-up and things like fake noses. |

I think I'll reserve judgement at the moment.. I have to say, I have my doubts. I'm sure if a film was made it would be a success, but I'm just a little worried about how a major Hollywood film would go about portraying Freddie. I agree, however, that Johnny Depp would make a fantastic Freddie. He's got the same kind of facial structure and he's an excellent actor that can pull off just about any role. Anyway.. We shall see what happens.. |
Katastrophe Mercury 08.11.2006 14:47 |
how ironic... just the other day i was talking with my mum and some friends about "what if they make a movie about freddie?"... but it had better not be all about his love life...i've heard about so many tv documentaries about almost nothing except his love life...i dont love him becuase of the people he slept with, i love him for his talent, personality and music... |

The other members of Queen are going to get a look-in in this film. I know they are all involved in the making of it but are the parts of Roger, John and Brian going to be major parts at all?? I'm well aware that without Freddie we wouldn't have Queen et cetera but I often feel that the other members are considered 'nobodys' by the music gurus who aren't necessarily die-hard Queen fans. And do we really want ANOTHER account of his life, drugs/sex/gay sex/dwarves/AIDS/etc. I do admit that all that in a film form would be interesting, much more interesting than a film about John's life, but still I'm fed-up of all these accounts of Freddie's life who mention Brian and Roger in passing (they don't even mention John) as if they didn't matter. Freddie wouldn't have made it if it weren't for the other three eitherand they were together for well over twenty years for Chrissakes! I think the parts of Brian, Roger and John should be deeper than 'Freddie formed Queen with two/three friends' and then into the scandalous side of Freddie's life. I'd prefer a 'Queen' film rather than just a 'Freddie' film. They were a band of four strong-willed guys and I wish the entertainment idustry would see that! |

I wonder how the outcome will look like... I read somewhere in an article that Freddie's story was initially intended to be used in the We Will Rock You musical, but this plan was cancelled, because the musical then would have become very sad and tragic. But I'm really curious if this movie will be serious or just a collection of well known rumours. |

If they want to make a decent movie of 2h30-3h máx, they´ll have to choose a time in Freddie´s live that´s worth the effort. If it isn´t about Queen then probably they will stick with his last five years. This way they will only need one actor to play the role. I mean, Johny Depp is great but he can´t play the young Freddie. It´s going to be a difficult task, because Freddie doesn´t look like anyone else. And they must choose an Indian guy or at least someone with those eastern characteristics! I would rather have a Queen film, just concentrated on the band and their music, like the Doors movie. Take care |
deleted user 08.11.2006 19:32 |
I don't see why it's of such a concern that the actor is a Freddie clone... I would take a good actor over a look-alike, any day. Freddie himself had different "looks". A good actor should be able to "convince" me that he's Freddie - even if the match isn't spot-on. I don't mean that someone who looks TOTALLY different could do it... But if it was between a Freddie-clone and a good actor who looked similar, I would rather give the actor a chance and see what the magic of make-up could do for whatever was "lacking" in the visual element. |

The article say's " A Queen tribute movie is in the pipeline" not only a freddie movie. Of course their going to bring up the aids issue, it was a big part of Queen history, but if it's gonna be good they must make a movie over two hours and concrete on all of 1971 to 1995. Johnny Depp is a great choice to play freddie. That all he needs to do is put a wig on for the young freddie, then grow a mustache for the 80's. I'm actually very excited about this, brian and roger will make sure it's done right, and think about all the possible hits that could come out it. The doors became bigger than ever after that "doors" movie. |

Freddies Delilah 09.11.2006 07:05 |
I have mixed feelings about this - it could be good, and yet it could be awful. I just hope they focus on the REAL Freddie - not his stage persona. This movie could be great, and I hope it is. But this movie could also be horrible and make me cringe in my seat from the horror of what they've done. But even if it's awful, it will probably still have Queen songs in it - at least I'll go away singing a tune I love :-) As for who to act him, Johnny Depp would be pretty good... but I don't know if anyoine (even Depp) could capture, you know, FREDDIE. So all we can do is cross our fingers - and hope. |

O.K, lets look at something extremly important! Who is DIRECTING this film? It's all well and good to concern one's self with actors (we all know that only someone like Depp could pull it of) but the director is highly important. It would have to be someone with an artistic mind because that was Freddie's greatest asset, his art! Perhaps someone like Peter Weir(The Witness, Rabbit Proof Fence) Gore Verbinski(Pirates of the Caribean, experience with Depp), and perhaps Cameron Crowe, who directed 'Almost Famous'. Directors at the end of the day make the final edit that decides whether or not an actors performance gets through and ultimatley whether or not Freddie is portrayed well or not. However I agree that the whole band should be covered, because those four are all brilliant musicians (Brian is easily in the top five best guitarists of all time, and I may be biast but I trully believe that he's the best). And when the four were together, the best songs were produced. As far as actors go, if the director and casting agent are clever they will go for Depp, or someone very simmaler. Keep in ones mind, if the the director and casting agent aren't so good, then someone like Jude Law (he's got talent but he ain't no Freddie) may be selected. Lets have faith in the movie world, and hope they do our beloved Freddie justice, Take Care all... B.R |

I'm trying to think of someone other than Johnny Depp for Freddie, but nothing comes to mind right away. As far as the other three members, I hope they cast relatively unknown English actors and not Americans (I'm American) if only because it may be best if "unknowns" play the other parts. With the right director, and the other three's imput, the can "get it right". If you have a star play, say Brian, you know he'll try to put his own spin on it, instead of the way it was. Too bad Anthony Hopkins wasn't 30 years younger-he could've played Norman Sheffield? Also, to play a young Freddie, maybe Wilder Valderama from "That 70's Show?link |

I think Jonny Depp would fit only for acting Freddie Mercury before his death in Innuendo period, and just as I'm going slightly mad character, otherwise I dont see much similarities between them. I would prefer Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie, even his latest character Borat is much or less similar to Freddie's look. Even Borat himself admited that his image is based on Freddie's imagine and look. On the other hand, some people could think that this is another Borat film:} |

And what about the live concerts? Do you think the movie should be intercallated with the real Queen footage. For example Live Aid? Or you think that the actors should try to do the live thing as well? A little bonus at the end of the film with some real footage from the band playing live seems a good idea to me. Take care |

I can't picture Depp as Freddie at all. Then again, he is Johnny Depp so who knows... However gang, I have for you the one and only choice for Freddie Mercury that I have ever come across. drum roll..... GAEL GARCIA BERNAL! I guarantee you he would NAIL IT!!!! He'd win an oscar in just as "case closed" a decision as Jamie Foxx's oscar win was when he played Ray Charles two years ago. As for everyone else, I would maybe do something like: Ryan Phillipe as Roger Taylor Edward Norton or Geoffrey Rush as John Deacon Josh Hartnett as Brian May(weak I know, but I can't think of anyone else) and a couple of supporting characters Phyllip Seymour Hoffman as Roy Thomas Baker Gwyneth Paltrow as Mary Austin Ray Winstone(actor from Sexy Beast and The Departed) as Freddie's last lover(Jim something?) Oddly enough, the one actor that seems to me to be the best/closest choice in accurately depicting the character played is Gael Garcia Bernal as Freddie. |

Also, I am pretty sure this rumour is crap because I have heard Brian comment on a Queen movie saying that it would be great, but probably shouldn't be done until the three living members each bite the dust. And lastly, I should direct it! Hey, I have a film degree and a pretty good short film(will be shooting my 2nd short next year). Why me? Because I would give it the love and care it deserves and treat it as my life's work. Maybe I am full of crap, but one thing I can promise is that I could make a Queen film that's way better than whatever sucky director puked out that Def Leppard movie VH1 made a few years ago. |

I like the thought of a Freddie film with Borat as Freddie :-) No, seriously, did you see "Walk the line"? The Johnny Cash bio-pic? Cash's friends, fans and family are all together very pleased with the movie, though in Cash's life there were lots of dark spots that had to be covered (in both meanings of the word) somehow. If they do a similar good job with the Freddie movie, it could be a huge success. |
