Ok, so your in a band for 20 years, Do you see the people in your band as workmates? Do you have peronal conversations? is it like the people you are friends with at work? I mean, how close was Fred to the other band members? I have heard that Fred and Roger were best mates, but i mean what level of friendship/mateship did they all have. On topics of aids and sexualtiy, which is always hard to talk about, express you either have aids or coming out, did Fred have other close mates who he could talk to? I mean i know he had mates but the again, what level were they on. Did the band members hang out? I know over time you want your own space and all and they didnt have there moments. Just wanna see if any one could shed some light on this.
Cheers
They all mostly had their own circle of friends, and they were more "co-workers" than best friends. Roger and Freddie were certainly friends, and Freddie worked closely with John, but I think they all (at one time in their career) said they rarely hung out together when they weren't working.
I like to look at body language - observe eye contact, facial expressions, and who is standing next to whom, etc. I think you can tell who among them felt "closer" as friends.
I would say that at first they was very very close - due to them living together
You don't form a band with people you don't like - and if you do it's not long till the band splits - or someone is sacked.
As time went on they stay fairly close - not like in the late 60's early 70's,m and form new friends - get family have kids - and with the amount of touring they did - anyone would get sick of someone else - irrelevant of how close they are, have been or anything.
And then as Fred got ill - they came close again like early in there career - more to a point of protection than anything !!!
My views anyway

Freddie and Roger were very close in the early years, they also remained close throughout the rest of Queen's career (with Freddie) but as has been said, what with Freddie trawling off to gay clubs and Roger settling down (well sort of) with kids that waned a bit. When that happened Bri and Rog seemed to get closer, I guess because the two of them are really very similar. John was so quiet he got on with everyone in the beginning, very little fuss; but he and Freddie formed a friendship that seemed formed on the basis of working together as they were quite similar in that way (hard workers) plus John has that stability Freddie never had. Brian and Freddie formed, for want of a better word or phrase, that 'wow factor' of the Queen songs with that guitar and voice so they worked together well, that clip of Budapest when they practise the Hungarian folk song for the concert is really sweet. I think the Queen members were friends you don't stick it out for over two decades if you don't like each other a bit regardless of Freddie's little quips vis a vis the fact he's 40 now he can't form a new band; he can't go back now!
