Hi All,
I have acome accross a version that has Brian and Roger on this song with Freddie? Can anyway confirm they know if Rog and Bro did do anything on this song?? I doubt it does have them but it was titled that way when i saw it playing...
Yes, the original single/OST version and its child versions (extended dance remix, Argentinian radio edit and the instrumental mix). And also the film version.
anyone know where you can find the Freddie Mercury Love Kills (Rock Mix) version of the song? Is it on the Solo Collection Box set? Been playing it through LastFm and thinking it is one of the best remixes of this song. With all the guitars and hard drums it is hard to think that it wouldnt have made a half decent Queen song!

The versions released in 1984/5 do feature Brian on guitar and Roger on drums, while John participation is unconfirmed.
this may have been discuussed in the past ... anything CONFIRMED by now? afaik (and hear) there was NO participation from the guys. (it alwasy makes me wonder, how people come across those ideas ... wishful thinking?) of course the "guitar"-solo shall sound like brian, as the drum (machine) beat shall remind us of radio ga-ga - but then again, listen to e.g. the originally released version of she blows hot and cold - still sounds like brian, doesn't it ...
Love Kills 4:31
Written by Freddie Mercury/Giorgio Moroder
Appears on: UK Love Kills 7" vinyl, The Freddie Mercury Album, Metropolis Soundtrack, Freddie Mercury Solo, Freddie Mercury Solo Collection, Lover Of Life Singer Of Songs, Lover Of Life Singer Of Songs (Limited Edition), Germany Love Kills promo CD single (2006), Germany Love Kills CD single (2006), Holland Love Kills CD single (2006)
Love Kills is Freddie's first solo release since the 1973 Pre-Queen Larry Lurex release. This original version of the track was released in 1984 to coincide with it's appearance in the Giorgio Moroder edit and restoration of Fritz Lang's Metropolis. There is some debate as to how much influence the other members of Queen had on this track. It may have been planned for The Works and may have some instrumentation by Queen members.
I thought it was a very well known fact that Freddie had a fascination with using a Brian May play-a-like for his projects. Just look at She Blows H n C. Brian plays a blinder in the studio jam that was on the FM box - but after that jam, Freddie gets a guy to come in and play with a similar sound and style. Why?? After hearing Brian's playing on SBHnC, the replacement just doesn't feel or sound as exciting. Why Freddie? Why?! Was he that insecure about being hassled by peeps about Brian being on any of his solo stuff that he had Brian's bits replaced so people wouldn't pass comment to that effect?

Adam.
Well, by now I think I would be able to know the difference between one of those "play-a-like" guys and Brian, even with all the synths involved in the solo of Love Kills, but I do not have any evidence to back me up. I think I read an interview somewhere confirming it, but I am old and the memories are vanishing... :)
Anyway, the synths, drums, synth-guitar and the whole production sound in Love Kills are much more queenie than any other Freddie album or single effort, IMHO.
There may very well be a version of Love Kills in the vaults with Bri and Co on it, however the version released is certainly NOT them.
As Adam say, even Brian has commented on his site how sad he was the Freddie would come in and say, "Hey this guy sounds just like you" Brian was bewildered as to why Freddie wanted a guitarist to sound like him when he was available to do the job, however it was Freddie's project so he left well alone.
I can certainly see why Fred would want a different band behind him, but have never understood why he would try to emmulate Brian's sound.
However I am fairly sure they worked on some of the track during the MIH sessions, however for contractual reasons it was not possible to release (or finish)
I suspect it will see the light of day, one day. Old Greggy poos near as damn it confirmed it by stating 'No Comment' on whether it was in the vault or not.

I recall that Georg Purvis' book, Complete Works, mentions that Bri and Rog are on the record.

Are you sure about thse MIH sessions? Even IWBTLY was reworked because the record company wanted a more uptempo song/potential single on the album. Can't remember seeing anywhere that they were working on other Freddie songs as well.
