Hello everyone! I was wondering if there were any Freddie accapella mixes out there? It would be neat to hear you take my breath away, love of my life, killer queen, love me like there's no tomorrow, it's a hard life and more, but I don't know if anyone can make those mixes. If you can, and would like to show me some or what not, my email is jware82234@hotmail.com or just post on here.
Thanks.
Queen Mercury
From the Freddie box set you will find:
'Let's Turn It On'
'La Japonaise'
'The Golden Boy'
From 'The Game' DVDA - 'Play the Game'.

Indeed. This stuff isn't really do-able. For instance, one can't usually use a karaoke version of the track because there might be subtle differences, and you have to line it up absolutely perfectly.... and in my case, I don't have uncompressed versions of things to try it with.
(cough)
And with the surround stuff, there are probably pieces here and there where Freddie is acapella in one channel (whereas in stereo he has instrumentation underneath him.)
A method that dance mixes rely on, is if you're making your own instrumentation, you find the parts with the quietest original instruments and simply overpower them with your beat. You have to be careful not to drown out dear Freddie, but his voice can cut through anything :)

there is a trick that involves making a perfect instrumental, and overlaying it on the orginal... the resultant cut is supposed to leave centre channel only...but it's really hit an miss and you get loads of centre stuff in there too - takes a lot of cleaning and never perfect
Hmmm. For that, you really need everything to be lossless. The instrumental needs to be mixed precisely the same as the actual song.
I tried using the instrumental of A Winter's Tale to make an a capella, it just wound up 'perfectly' removing John Deacon's bass from parts of the track.
(sigh)

Again, I'll say that these things are always going to be very hit and miss. Even worse, is that it's usually going to leave some instrumentation. I've tried the approach you mention and the results are not good at all.

i have audacity and cool edit pro
would you be able to email me how you achieve your results for vocal isolation - even tho it's hit and miss i would like to have a go
would you be kind enough to email me mbrennan@blueyonder.co.uk
thanks
The only times I succeeded in doing a good vocal isolation was with March of the Black Queen.
And I got a very muffeled vocal surrounded by loooooots of digital waste

'fraid not. Reason is not that I don't want to. It's just that I always play about with a song and see what I can get from it and every song is different, so it's not simply a setting I use.
However, I see you don't use Audition Pro. This will give you the Center Channel Extractor (CCE) function that you'll want for vocal cuts and other things. CEPro has one, but sometimes the Audition CCE works better.

ALWAYS uncompressed wavs from your cd's or Flac's of course. MP3's have a LOT of digital noise in them, so they're pretty useless in that sense. But they're also devoid of their original phase information because of the way the mp3 compression works.

Adobe Audition is one of the best programs out there to tinker with. You can download the trial version at adobe.com, and you can buy it (or crack it).
Most of the time the central channel of a stereo track can be removed (or isolated) to suppress the vocals; the opposite can be done to enhance the vocals and suppress the instruments. Not all tracks (especially not all Queen tracks) can be manipulated in this way.
Some artists are easier to use. Fool around with it, and you can get something close to what you want. You won't get it perfect though, so don't say I didn't warn you.

i've just downloaded the trial and installed it. It won't start! When I doubleclick on the icon, a window appears. The window say how many days i've got left and below I can press "Continue Trial" or "Quit". I press "Continue Trial" and a loadingscreen appears in about a half second and then it's closed. Afterwards, nothing happens.
I've tried re-installing the trial but I still got the same problem.
