Weird Al is excellent! I love his stuff, and own a lot of his albums. I've seen interviews with several artists who say that they love it when Weird Al asks to parody their stuff because that's like the benchmark in popularity. If Weird Al wants to make fun of it, then everyone knows the original song, and that makes you popular. He's absolutely brilliant with the funny things he can come up with. I haven't heard the new song though...I'm going to have to look for it! He's also brilliant in another way. He only makes new albums every few years. He says himself that he spaces things out like that because he doesn't want people to get sick of him....always leave them wanting more. |

LMAO!!!! I loved the Boh Rhap video, man!!! The good thing about Yankovic is, he takes the piss out of anything but it doesn't seem to offend anyone. We all get the joke, well, I do anyways. He's one hilarious guy. |
Haystacks Calhoun II 18.10.2006 12:58 |
The only people who EVER got salty at Al were Coolio, and that fag James Blunt. Coolio got upset at Amish Paradise, and Blunt got his panties in a wad over You're Pitiful. |
Penetration_Guru 18.10.2006 13:01 |
With James Blunt it was actually the record company, not Blunt himself. And Prince has never allowed any parody of his songs |
Carol! the Musical 18.10.2006 13:39 |
Haha, he's funny! I loved his little "interview" with Billy Joel.... xD "What's your name?" "Billy Joel.." "Can I call you Louie the dog- faced weasel boy?" |

I'll be honest: "Weird Al" Yankovic is a genius. Who else could take the art of parody and make an explosively successful career out of it? I bought his latest album, Straight Outta Lynwood (a title parody of rap group N.W.A.'s "Straight Outta Compton") on DualDisc, and I really like it. His parodies are funny, and his original songs are very creative. And yes, it is cool to know Al has dabbled in Queen's works, starting with 1980's "Another One Rides The Bus", and then 1993's "Bohemian Polka", a fast-paced polka cover of one of Queen's most popular songs; it was not a medley of other popular songs, like his polkas usually are. This is the cool thing about Al: even though his music is all fun and games, he always maintains professionalism. When he parodies a song, he makes sure to get permission from the artist who made the song. As it was mentioned earlier, Coolio was upset at Al for parodying his hit "Gangsta's Paradise". Al was given permission by Coolio's record label, but when he heard about it, Coolio went off on Al. Only three other artists have denied Al the right to parody their songs...well, only one, technically. Eminem allowed Al to parody "Lose Yourself" for his 2003 album Poodle Hat. He didn't allow Al to release a music video, as he claimed it would hurt his image as an artist. James Blunt allowed Al to parody his hit "You're Beautiful". The parody was set to be released on his latest album. Blunt's record label changed their mind at the last minute, and that's when Al went into the studio and made "White 'N' Nerdy", which is probably his best song on Straight Outta Lynwood. ("You're Pitiful", Al's parody of Blunt's track, was, and still is, available as an Internet download.) And, of course, we all know about Prince. Prince, to this date, has never allowed Al to parody any of his songs (Al claims that Prince may not have that kind of humor, although he keeps checking up with him to see if he changed his mind). Another cool thing about Al: His longevity also gives him more power. He has been performing since the late 70's, and has kept the same backup band (which consists of guitarist Jim West, bassist Steve Jay, and drummer Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz) since 1984. He has only changed his guitarist once, when music veteran Rick Derringer stepped out. Love him or hate him, "Weird Al" Yankovic is here to stay. As long as there is popular music in the world, there will always be "Weird Al" to make it all funny. |
