I know queens history, but I personally never liked them until I heard paul on vocals along with brian and roger. ROTC is simply some of rocks best live performances, and paul is simply unmatched. Don't get me wrong freddie Mercury and rober plant are good, but paul is amazing! |
mircal 18.10.2006 02:34 |
well,, i suppose if you like them you need to look at the foundations... with out freddie there wouldne be this great amouint of music for queen + paul to go on with. As for the best thing to happen to queen...... no.... its great for fans as your self.... i listen to the ROTC, but.... its not the best thing to happen. Maybe in there eyes, they feel they can move on. |

Let's put it this way: Paul is the best thing that happened to Queen since Freddie passed away. Then it's a definate YES! for me. |
Drowse1 18.10.2006 06:34 |
Nooooooooooooooooooooo. I was a fan of Paul's before I'd even heard of Queen (and still am a fan of his) but I just don't think that the Queen+PR thing works at all. I'd be happier if Brian & Roger shared vocals rather than having anyone else as front man. Leave Paul to his solo stuff and Bad Company tours where he is at his best. |
Ready_Coddie 18.10.2006 07:28 |

You see, a lot of people are "Freddie" fans, not "Queen" fans. You're definitely not the first person to prefer Queen with Paul Rodgers over Queen with Freddie Mercury. I will agree with Jeroen and say that Paul is the best thing to happen to Queen in the last 15 years. Paul is unlike everyone else the band has worked with. He's not trying to be anything like Freddie. Paul is being Paul, and he lends his unique style to every Queen song he touches without insulting the original. |

To each their own opinion. I think Paul is an awesome singer, and together with Queen they put out a great show. However, I wished that it was Brian and Roger doing the vocals themselves. |

In MY opinion... He isn't the BEST thing that's happened to Queen recently... BUT! He's helped alot in getting them to collaberate with him and sale out loads of gigs. If you think about it, theres alot more youth liking Queen, ever since they opened the WWRY Musical and did the tours. I'm sure of it. |
Amiss 18.10.2006 14:07 |
honestly i dont think that paul's voice fit in queen's songs...nobody is going to sing better than freddie of course but for ex. george michel would be much better than paul. george singing somebody to love sounds pretty similar to the orginal! |

[edit] i dont hate paul. he's a good singer. really. but i dont hate him. i just dont prefer him. sure i'd go to see a Q+PR concert, but naw...i dont prefer him. |

From one of my rants months ago: Paul Rodgers rocks. If you didn't get goosebumps hearing "Reaching Out" blend into a crashing version of "Tie Your Mother", there's something terribly wrong with you (as a fucking Queen fan). I absolutely can not wait to see Paul and the boys live in Georgia. I completely agree with the first post of this thread. That having been said, let me just say that I am more than sick of hearing the ranting and raving of anti-Paul Queen "fans". If you don't care for Paul and are under the impression that Queen died in 1991, keep it under your hat. Don't rain on everyone else's parade. We're all well aware that Freddie Mercury died, that Paul is not really the lead singer for Queen and that Queen was and always will be Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, Roger Taylor and Brian May. However, what we are left with is Queen as they are now. No Freddie. No John. Paul Rodgers, along with other musicians, is merely filling the shoes of those no longer present. Paul has given Brian and Roger whatever motivation neccessary to continue the Queen legacy. I am very thankful for him, simply because I seriously doubt Brian and Roger would have toured without fusing Paul into the mix. I saw Brian and Roger perform as Queen (pre-Paul) in September of 2004 at the premiere of WWRY in Las Vegas. Previously, I'd never seen the boys live. Certainly there was no Freddie, but the spirit and the rocking sound of Queen came through loud and clear. The performance was astounding. Loud. Brilliant. Paul merely adds to their brilliance, if you ask me, and perfectly compliments the Queen sound. |

i dont think paul has been the best thing thats happen to Queen. i mean i have nothing against him but Queen without Freddie is like cheese burgers without cheese. |

He puts his own spin on it. Sometime it works, sometime it doesn't, I must admit. But of all the singers that have ever collaborated with Queen, Paul is definately the best in my opinion. |

Paul might have been a very well respected musician before teaming up with Brian and Roger but no way was he a LEGEND. Paul did not have a #1 album or single with ANY of his 3 bands in the UK. That is not a LEGEND. its like taking a team from any sport in the world who never won their championship, sure they were 2nd a few times and 3rd quite a lot but never ever top, and calling them legends. that is not a LEGEND! the only reason Paul did have 3 bands over most singers is that most of them might be in a band and then go solo, not go from band to band to band, thats all it is. July 13th 1985. Live Aid. The biggest show in the world. Queen were at Wembley where they stole the show. Freddie was the greatest. Where was Paul Rodgers? LEDEND? YEAH WHATEVER!!!!! |
The Real Wizard 23.10.2006 00:33 |
Reaching number 1 in the top 40 isn't the only way you can become a legend. If it were, then Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and Django Reinhardt wouldn't be guitar legends, James Jamerson and Tony Levin wouldn't be bass legends, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday wouldn't be singing legends, and Yes wouldn't be progressive rock legends. The mainstream top 40 does not exclusively define what makes a legend. The mainstream is such a small portion of the whole world of music. It is, however, all that most people people are exposed to. This is why most people think Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitarist ever, but can't name three jazz guitarists. For this reason, you can't disqualify Paul Rodgers from legendary status for never having a #1 hit. The criteria of becoming a legend can also include innovation, versatility, musical depth, respect within the industry, and influence on others. Paul Rodgers has influenced countless people. If you disagree, then you just don't realize how important a band Free was in the UK in the early 70s. If you can't accept the fact that Paul is the only person to lead three bands to multi-platinum success, and if you think it's only the mainstream that defines who will go down in history as the legends, then it's your loss, not mine. The opinions of the ignorant mainstream aren't the only ones that count. |
