The Miracle... :
Party : A party - the day after. Sounds like someone doesn't want the party to stop, but someone else(s) are leaving. You know, hang-overs.
Khashoggi's Ship : Excess. Khashoggi was a real guy (as my not-being-born-at-the-time info would tell me, famous for excess). I don't know, I see something morbid in it - "no one stops my...", even the best things must end ?
These two seem, to me, to say something about the end of life and something sad... Such as all the people at the Party leaving. The party finally being over. I could also be reading way too much into it. :)
The Miracle : I just see "The Miracle of Life". And the waiting for the miracle of peace. :P I guess birth is part of the miracle of all this - but I wouldn't say exclusively.
I Want it All : A kid who wants the world. I heard it was inspired by Brian's wife or whoever, so maybe someone who acts like a kid. Or wants the world and is focused and will do anything to get it.
The Invisible Man : I have no idea. I know of the book by the same name. I still don't know. I can see a little disconnected-from-society-ness.
Breakthru : Unrequited love ? Trying to reach someone who isn't "there". I don't bloody know.
Rain Must Fall : No matter who you are, something bad's bound to happen in your life. It can't be sunshine and daisies for all the time for anyone.
Scandal : I think this song is quite clear on what it means. The celebrity scandal machine - no one knows the truth - why does anyone actually care ? ...
My Baby Does Me : "My baby plays me and screws me over".
Was It All Worth It : Well, was it (the sacrafice, et cetera) ? They say it was.
Hang On In There : Your life isn't over yet, keep going because the best is yet to come ? To be honest, I'm getting a little bored of doing this.
And in the end... I don't even care !
I also realise there are many ways to look at each song, and I'm NOT saying I'm right and I don't want to agrue about it.

'Billionaire' is not my choice of wording for Adnan Khashoggi. 'Illegal arms-dealer' would be more like it.

it might not be your choice of word Casper..but "billionaire" is 100% accurate
as is "arms dealer" and "billionaire arms-dealer"
Mrs. Deacon, I seriously doubt that "The Miracle" album was written with the intention of reflecting child birth/childhood. Futhermore, I doubt that Freddie Mercury (and the rest of the boys) would have collaborated on an album with such a simple "childish" meaning. The work of Queen tends to be as complex as a symphony - both in terms of lyrics and music. There is no continually running theme throughout their albums, including "The Miracle", nor should we assume that any one particular album is solely based around one theme in particular (ie, childhood). Look a little bit further into the lyrics of Queen's music, specifically their final albums, and I think you'll find that quite the opposite from your observation, their words deal more with the end of life, rather than the beginning.
"I think you'll find that quite the opposite from your observation, their words deal more with the end of life, rather than the beginning."
You bring up two points here that are closer related than you imply! Are not the beginning and the end two horns on the same goat??
i am trying to not "flame" the post starter...so i will hold back a little on the punches
the ideas in the first post are so absolutely wide of the mark as to be ridiculous.
to even begin to understand what this album was about - you have to realise what was going on in 87/88/89 - the years building up to it's release
1. Freddie found out he was dying
2. the band got back together after a couple of 80s "unpublicised splits"
3. Brian had marriage difficulties
4. they decided to co-credit for songwriting even tho individuals did still write some songs - hence the "four-headed-monster" on the cover.
the album title was reflective of the fact that it was a miracle they got to finish it....did Roger write the title track? - it sounds like the way he wanted to take the theme of One Vision - before Freddie adapted it for him
most of the songs are self explanatory...the lyrics help in this area....reading them helps even more
hang on in there wasn't even on the original vinyl album...it was an extra track for CD - but not part of the planned album release
Wow. It is as if people these days have absolutely NO sense of humor. Ugh. Of course I know this album has NOTHING to do with what I "made fun of". Ugh. God. :(
