I think that Freddie's best live performance (VOCALLY)of Bohemian Rhapsody was at the Wembley gig in '86. What's your opinion on this matter? |
john bodega 09.10.2006 08:48 |
Hmmm. Gosh, you know... I've seen/heard quite a few shows, but I usually skip Bohemian Rhapsody because I've heard it so many times! Personally, I actually liked Live Aid a little better than Wembley '86. But I really can't comment on Bohemian Rhapsody because thats not one that I actively seek out. |

god almighty - wembley version is so lame - have you any taste at all (the intro is rubbish - the best bit is the end bit which is prob the best) but for the intro - ya i'd nearly agree live aid is as good as anything. But my fav performance is 86 in paris - everything about it - he really sung the line "mama ooohh..." - like with such power i never heard before so that's my favourite one along with live aid |
Dreamcast 09.10.2006 10:36 |
Off course Mannheim . Fabulous intro ,I mean whilst Freddie said ' we love u what a corny and ... ' and incredible end . |

I really love the version from the WATC video shoot in the New London Theatre Centre 1977 (shared here recently). Freddie lets the audience sing the high parts of the song, and it blends perfectly. So it's the first and only time the original melody is there – stunning! But unfortunately the song is cut after the ballad part. From all complete live versions I like the one from Newcastle 1979 best, Freddie's voice is just perfect. |

And don't forget Hammersmith Odeon '79, even if he doesn't reach the "di-i-ie" . The only performance that I know where Freddie reach this high note is Newcastle 79, in fact. And Paul Rodgers reached one time this high note, during the BORhap from Sazka Arena, in Prague, Czech Republic. I think that it is his most powerful performance. Listen to I want it all, he reaches high notes there too, very much better than in SHeffield. But FREDDIE's best live vocal performance that I know are: 1) Newcastle 79 2) Hammersmith Odeon 79. In 86, Freddie has much energy, but, even in Stockholm, Sweden, 1986, he doesn't reaches so high notes. If you know other shows where Freddie or Paul reaches the "Die", then tell me, because I think that it is a little high note which is very important for the perfection of the entire show. |

Newcastle 04.12.1979 was surely thwe best ever performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, as for Wembley '86, ARE YOU JOKING?! |

Indeed Hammy '79 is fantastic , but I think Newcastle'79 is kind of better, it's the best ever. Freddie was keeping a big voice even in the high notes, so powerful in the rock part... |

I like Wembley 86 too, it's a good barked rendition of it "Mama his life had JUhhhST begun". The power was amazing. |

This reminds me of a thread we were discussing awhile back. link General concensus was that Newcastle 79 and Hammersmith 75 were the best. |

Interesting mention of Munich 79. I really liked that one as well. |

Newcastle 79 is stunning, Live at the Bowl is really good as well, Live aid was also stunning version as well. While I did quite like the power on the Wemebley, its definatly not in the top 10 best performances of Bo rhap IMO. |
Benn 10.10.2006 09:13 |
Without doubt - Hammersmith Odeon 1975 |
john bodega 10.10.2006 12:43 |
This will no doubt cause a groan or two; but does anyone feel like e-mailing me an mp3 of Bo Rhap from Newcastle '79? PS. Would it help if I put my hair in pony tails and asked in a real cute voice? |

I saw the Live Aid performance recentley, and it was really good, absoloutley brilliant. Got the Wembly video last night, and the performance of Bo Rap wasnt that impressive untill after the operatic section. Is there any other way that you can see the live shows from the early seventies, without using bitorrent, or You Tube. I cant get bittorent and I was not allowed into You Tube (age). Is their any sites, where you can 'Save Target As' and download the live show that way? Take care all!, B.R |

Oakland'80 is a great version aswell.Freddie's voice is in great shape and he really puts much emotion in it. |

I listened to another great version. Brussels 8/24/1984.Fantastic!!Listen carefully and you'll agree. |
tenchijin2 15.11.2006 08:40 |
Hamersmith '75. The reason is that his voice has a suppleness to it. You can hear the head tone in his vibrato. It's not just yelling. Granted, he was a great yeller! But I prefer his earlier vocal work (pre '76) because of the natural, more pure quality of his voice. |
My Melancholy Blues 15.11.2006 14:57 |
Imo Newcastle is the best, and yes about Oakland'80 I agree. Besides, Edinburgh(June/01/'82) is another great version. I like this better than Milton Keynes. |

Let's give the Wembley '86 people a break. I have listened to dozens of Queen conerts and I still consider Wembley '86 one of my favorites. Freddie's voice wasn't in the best condition, but the way he brought out the power in the song anyway was brilliant. As for my favorite BoRhap performances, i don't know. He always sounded good on the ANATO tour, but the song was broken up into 3 parts (opera-rock to start the show, then the ends as part of a medley), so I can't say any of those are my fave. Earl's Court was good, but not even close to the best. I just recently listened to Newcastle '79, and yes it's excellent. Houston '77 is good too, except for a couple of times where his voice cracks trying to hit the high notes. Strangely, even listening to so many concerts, I like Wembley '86 the most when I think of it. It's a combination of the crowd, excellent quality of the sound, and power in Freddie's voice. Wouldn't have though to come to that conclusion, but I really can't think of a BoRhap performance I'd rather listen to. |

I also love the wembly show, it's weird because I realize freddie's voice isn't at his best range wise, but the power and emotion/passion he sings with is amazing, and makes up for any lost of range. The rest of the band is also great, now I realize queen put on better shows in the past, but wembly in my opinion was magic. |
