Why not? Let's give this a try! Focus just on the setlist... not the actual performance, as those could be up and down, especially with the example I'm about to give.
My favourite setlist has to be Sapporo 5-6-79. My favourite tour is the Jazz tour, and this one show has the ultimate Jazz setlist (well, minus Spread Your Wings as they dropped it a couple weeks earlier due to Freddie's voice). But still, they played all the songs that were rotated from show to show: If You Can't Beat Them, Teo Torriate, Don't Stop Me Now, Fat Bottomed Girls, and then for good measure, Jailhouse Rock.
A close second would be any News Of The World show where they played It's Late, Spread Your Wings, and Liar.
Any others?
Oh, it's a very interesting topic, but I'm kind of lazy.
But, okay I'll try!
From the viewpoint of that, I can hardly choose only one. So, my fav. ones are the ADATR tour (such as Rotterdam 17 May '77, Earls Court etc.)and the Jazz tour ( such as Sapporo 6 May '79 you've referred to, Montreal 1 Dec. '78, etc.).
Well, I like the NOTW tour as well( especially because of "My Melancholy Blues" :D ), but I prefer the ADATR tour and the Jazz tour in terms of the setlist.
As to Rotterdam (and Bristol), the setlist is mostly as same as the one of Earls Court except "Sweet Lady" included without "Doing All Right" instead, and as encore "I'm A Man" included without long rock'n' roll medley.
Anyway "White Man"- "The Prophte's Son" including vocal improvisation is awesome and the highlight of the concert. Besides, full "You Take My Breath Away", full "Death On Two Legs"...
As to the Jazz tour they played "'39" in Montreal (1 Dec. '78) and some other places.
And I can't help but mention the full setlist of Japan tour '75 ( such as Tokyo 1 May '75.)
They played "Great King Rat", "Hangman", "See What A Fool I've Been". plus the typical SHA tour setlist.
I'd say Earl's Court '77. I am opposite in that I despise the changes made for the Jazz tour. It's not that I dislike Jazz, it's just that they dropped 'White Queen', 'Liar', 'The Prophet Song' and 'In the Lap of the Gods'. Nothing off of Jazz compares to those tracks.
I go for NOTW and Jazz tours because of 'It's late' and 'spread your wings'and because they are varied and long . I also like Hot space because they changed the set quite a bit during that tour. I like the Montreal'82 setlist for example with lots of Hot Space songs(and very good versions by the way)
Also the setlist from 12/4/1979 because they included Liar.I think they should have included 'If you can't beat them 'and 'fat bottomed girls' too though. That would have been an amazing setlist!!Maybe there was a show on that tour with that setlist.I hope so.
Magic tour has a better setlist than The Works tour in my opinion. I don't like it that' keep yourself alive', Liar and STL are so short. The magic Tour has AKOM and Under pressure there and these songs are longer and that's better in my opinion.I do think though they should have played dragon attack and It's a hard life at the magic tour!!
