"All-star rock ensemble Band du Lac hit the stage for charity in this 2005 concert at England's Wintershall Estate. Founder Gary Brooker leads the stellar lineup of Paul Carrack, Andy Fairweather-Low, Henry Spinetti and Mike Rutherford, with special guests Eric Clapton, Roger Taylor, Katie Melua, Ringo Starr, Chris Barber and The Drifters joining in the jams..." 2 hours 8 miinutes released 2006.
Roger sings three songs and joins other drummers for the finale. These Are The Days Of Our Lives and I Want To Break Free were Queen songs, but before that he sang Say It's Not True which he explained was written for Nelson Mandela and the crusade concerning HIV/AIDS in Africa. It's slow, it's sad, it's heartbreaking, and with Roger's raspy voice which can still hit the high notes, it is truly a tearjerker. I was sobbing. Sometimes a voice and lyrics are a perfect match. This is one of those times.
It sounded familiar, and when I looked on my Queen+PR Return of the Champions DVD, there it was. I probably also heard it at the Queen+PR concert in St. Paul, but I don't remember, and I don't have a setlist.
In the ROTC booklet (Taylor) is written after the song name. Oddly enough the booklet has no song lyrics - just pictures. I got the lyrics off of another website, so if they are incorrect, please say so.
Say It's Not True
The harder we play
The faster we fall
When we think that we know it all
We know nothing at all
The letter arrives
Like a bolt from the blue
So what's left of your lives
All your dreams lost to you
Say it ain't true
Say it today
When I open my eyes
Will it all go away
Say it's not true
Say it's not real
Can't be happening to you
Can't be happening to me
It's hard not to cry
It's hard to believe
So much heartache and pain
So much reason to grieve
With the wonders of science
All the knowledge we've stored
Magic cocktails for lives
People just can't afford
Say it's not true
You can say it's not right
It's hard to believe
The size of the crime
Say it's not true
You can say it's not real
Could be happening to you
Could be happening to me
