His style has remained the same with all his trademark flare, however there is no doubt that he is playing slower in the live setting these days, that maybe a decision he and Brian have made with Paul in how the songs are done, in days gone by most Queen songs were considerably faster in the live form, however today they are much more accurate to the original.
I still find him one of the most entertaining drummers to watch and his simple feel belies a more complex approach that can be difficult to master. He is a drummers drummer, locked into the bass and playing for the song not to show off.
I think his work is more focused on the song these days than ever before with less of the need to prove himself, hence the loss of solos etc.
Still very hard hitting with plenty of subtle flare that can be easily missed by the novice.
He has become a master of his craft, the fact that he plays slower at the current time is no indication of lack of fitness, believe me, it shows a more considered approach and is just as difficult to do.
I suppose to a degree they catered for the 80's market and that took away all the 70's stuff that just kicks ass. But all in all, he's craft is more pollished now. And i suppose if you look at the whole picture from 70's, 80', 90', and today, cant deny the talent and thats got to be appreciated.
