Hannie Roggeveen , the 25 years jubilee president of the Official Dutch Queen Office has officially announced in an e-mail to the fans that although she celebrates her 25 years of presidency this year, it will also be THE LAST DUTCH QUEEN-MEETING EVER. On Oktober 21st in "de Koningshof" in Maassluis, Holland, we will have the last chance of gathering and meeting this way in Holland. Due to lack of interest (thanks to the internet) she has decided that this year will be the lst year she organises a fanclub meeting. I think that all you "die-hard fans" out there, should jump to the ocasion, and order your tickets right away to make this last one a very memorable one for Hannie, Anja and us! The internet provides us with the news faster, but can NEVER be compared with the feeling of being between other real people enjoying the same passion. I think that the convention, other fanclubmeetings and events are irreplaceable and MUST be organised as long as there are Queen-fans alive. So let us boost this one to a sold out one, and maybe we can give Hannie second thoughts before she throws the towel in the ring....
Bas, it's a pity, but it's the way things go.

I know Hanny did a lot for the Fanclub, but there was no "business" view at all during the last 10 years. Internet has become the primary source for things related to Queen

So, I admire the work she has done until now, but the Dutch Fanclub (as well as the English one) should have used the internet in a sense that Queenonline and Queenzone is providing stuff to the fans ...

I can only say that living in 2006 makes some "dedicated" people look like they live in the middle ages (hence the fact that the Dutch Queenfanclub website is a 1997 Geocities type of design with no intereaction possibilities at all)

Again, what Hanny has done before that time is admirable (even without being paid), but the lack of keeping up to date with modern times is a pity

No one is going to try to save the Dutch Fan Club meetings. As Stefan said, this is the way the world is now. If Jacky and the OIQFC got in trouble, what makes you think the little Dutch Fan Club would fare any better? It's a shame, but reality.
As Stefan said and on this I agree completely, both the UK and Dutch fan clubs missed a big trick with their websites, they both let others do it much better and faster.
The day Jackie shut down the UK fan club forum was the biggest nail in it's coffin as far as I could see.
Sorry dutch fans but all things must pass, sad but inevitable frankly.
I don't think Hannie ever thought in terms of "business" - why should she, she does everything for free. For such a small country as the Netherlands the convention was quite a big event and very well organised. I will miss it. I hope there will be other chances to meet the friends I made in Holland, you guys know how to party :-)
If the Dutch fans wanted another convention Hannie would certainly organise it but apparently there are not enough people who want it. In any event the fans and the band owe it to Hannie that the fan club has survived for so long. She is one of the nicest and sweetest people I ever had the pleasure to meet and I never ever heard a single bad word about her from anybody and that says a lot in a community where gossip is the most favourite pastime :-)

I'm sorry but I feel the need to say something.
"The little Dutch fanclub" is part of the Official Fanclub, it's not a separate fanclub, like for example the Italian fanclub. It's an 'overseas Office'.
Hannie has been running this office (in a wonderful way, I'd like to add) for over 20 (or is it 25 already??) years now. Also, her decision doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how the English Office is doing.
It is sad that the oldest fanclub in the world will come to an end. But one thing must be clear here, most Dutch fans fully understand and respect Hannie's (difficult) decision and stand behind her in every way.
Take care, J.
No, indeed this descision is based purely on the fact that in recent years no more then a handfull of people turn up at the convention!
Sure there is indeed no business, but with thirty visitors or less, you cannot even break even. There is a venue that needs to be paid, guests that need to be paid or want to see compansation for their expenses...
Truth hurts. But obviously 'we', the fans, don't feel like having these kind of meetings (anymore). Otherwise more people would show up and there would still be meetings in the future.
Queen is now more popular then it has been for years, and even last year with all the fresh excitement because of the tour and all, the amount of visitors would make one cry.
Pitty for the thirty people that DO want this, but totally understandable.
And I do not think that it would be different if someone else would organise these meetings...

one of them should work...at least the Queenparty will go on for much longer...maybe Hannie can come to that just as a fan and be available at such an event to the fans.... the next one however , has an unlucky planning, being programmed for march the 24th 2007, when i will be at the convention....so maybe i can ask them to resceduel it in september around Freddies birhtday? Please help me then, so fans can visit both events...mail to the info@hetkloosterwaalre.nl or so...or any available email adress you can find on the site and ask them to change the date while they still can now....
I was there last year. It wasn't too bad. Nice music, a record fair, drinks and food. And no pathetic queen fans. Nobody dressed up like one of the Queen members. I really hate that stuff. Just enjoy the music, without behaving like a freak.
