Brian's lyrics I like more than Freddie's. But Freddie's music I like more than Brian's. |

Generally... Freddie and Brian in the 70s John and Roger in the 80s Of course, with an exception here and there. But think about it! |

For me the best one was Freddie, then Brian, Roger and then John..even if sometimes it's Freddie, Brian, John and Roger... |

Lyrics: equally Freddie and Brian Music: Like Brian heavy style (tear it up, Hammer to fall) or those nice songs (39, No-on but you). Freddie's the next (especially for changing roger's Magic in such a good song) Emotion: Equally John and Freddie, the close, Brian. Rock-my-*** songs: Roger (Love with my car, Radio gaga, original idea of Magic,...) |

Sir GH

ah yeah
wrote: Generally... Freddie and Brian in the 70s John and Roger in the 80s Of course, with an exception here and there. But think about it!I like John's songs in the late 70s, early 80s best. Spread Your Wings, Who Needs You, You And I, Another One Bites The Dust, I Want To Break Free. Those are awesome songs. I'm not too hot on his so called R&B songs in the mid 80s. Roger definately benefited from writing songs on the keyboard. Radio Gaga, Kind Of Magic, Breakthru and Days Of Our Lives are his best tunes, but I also like his "glam rock" songs alot, such as Tenement Funster, Drowse and Human Body. My favorite is In Love With My Car, though! Freddie wrote brilliant songs all during his carreer, although the mid 80s are a lowpoint. The songs on Queen I and Queen II are diamonds in the rough, a little more polished on SHA and pure shining gems on ANATO and ADATR. His songs on NOTW, Jazz and The Game are good, very well crafted songs. A song like Bicycle Race might seems like "just a pop song", but it is really very cleverly crafted, a 3 minute masterpiece. I'm not too fond of what he did on HS, Works and Magic, but there are still decent songs to be found, although they lack the spark of his earlier work. Most of his songs on Miracle and Innuendo are really good again, comparable with his mid 70s work. Brian is one of the most consistent songwriters, and also the better lyricist of the four, although I like Roger's clever wordplay as well. Brian doesn't really have a low point in his songwriting, from Queen I to Innuendo there are good songs to be found (and some clunkers as well). Perhaps his best album is The Game with Dragon Attack, Sail Away Sweet Sister and Save Me all three being brilliant songs. |

1. Roger 2. John 3. Freddie 4. Brian I don't really like a lot of Brian's music for some reason but I love Roger's. I have a playlist on my MP3 which are all the songs Roger wrote for Queen, sad I know. |

first of all if freddie wan't in the group queen would be called smile and they were long gone in 1969, in 1975 queen had to rely on a single and a album to chart in the top 5, the single bohemian rhapsody, freddie and also the first top hit 1974 killer queen by freddie, so i am going to say: for the 70's 1.)freddie 2.)Brian |

70's was Freddie, Roger has said, when they all met Freddie was really the best songwriter by miles. In the 70's when all the glamorous rocky styles (progressive rock, glam and hard rock) were considered cool that was when Freddie shone, particularly on the prog-rock side in the early Seventies, and into the later seventies he toyed with hard rock and if we're looking at 'Let Me Entertain You'it worked well! In the Eighties Freddie lost his touch, although of course he did come up with a few hidden gems! Brian is the one who always remained able to come up with the goods throughout both decades, with hard-rock and ballads both working well. John Deacon, I believe is a VERY talented songwriter, I Want To Break Free and Another One Bites the Dust both amongst their most recognisable hits and You're My Best Friend and Spread Your Wings being amongst their best! John's only letdown was he didn't write enough! Mind you, stable married life with four kids, all you really can write about that is something like I Want To Break Free! So hats off to John without a doubt! Roger, hmmm... in the early seventies Roger's songs really only appealed to one end of the spectrum! I'm not in that spectrum, I'm not a big fan of early seventies Roger although I think he is and always has been an excellent singer! From I'm In Love With My Car onwards Roger just got better and better. I love IILWMC, SHA (and have a not-quite-so-secret-anymore fondness for Fight From the Inside;D) And A Kind of Magic and Radio Ga Ga of course! The poppy style worked well for Roger! So to summarise I can't say who was the best songwriter because they all had different approaches to the task of songwriting, they had different styles, influences and so on. And they all had different points when they shone! John had moments when he shone big and bright and then retired, Freddie's talent gleamed throughout the seventies, Roger had little bursts like John, and Brian gleamed throughout Queen's music career! Sorry about the long post! |

I know this is more about what's most popular than what's 'better', but whose songs consistently made it onto the charts, stayed there longest or charted highest? |

Everybody has something else... but when John writes a song ( very rare! ), it's mostly a good one!! I love Bri's songs when i'm happy or sad, Freddie's songs mostly makes me cry... Rogers songs more have some kind of humor.I'm in love with my car is great!! These are the days i just love.. it's the best song he wrote EVER!! John is just weird... Sensitive, funny or like... another one bites the dust is just totally different.. Doesn't seem interesting to you, does it? |
Mr.Jingles 29.09.2006 12:07 |
A toss between Brian and Freddie. Freddie definitely wrote the best songs in the 70s, and for the rest of Queen's career it was Brian the one who came up with the best songs. |

1. Brian May 2. Freddie Mercury 3. Roger Taylor 4. John Deacon When I put Brian in first place I also feel that Freddie isn't far behide.... Freddie's songs are out of this world. Not alot of songwritters have touched my heart the way Brian and Freddie have. Still, Brian gets it first for me! |

Freddie once said that although Brian wrote the most songs, Freddie always had the high placing songs, and I suppose that sounds like he is bragging but it is kinda true. But I think they are all talented it their our rights. It is too hard to choose. |
