thanks, thats amazing, but where do you take these demos ?!?! |
such_a_jollification 23.09.2006 04:55 |
Thank-you! Very interesting to hear! |
Jjeroen 23.09.2006 05:24 |
Hmm... is there something wrong with this one or am I beying a dummy again? File downloads but when playing it stoppes about halfway through the track... Tried downloading it a couple of time and kept having the same problem... :-( |
stark 23.09.2006 05:51 |
This is great to hear - thank you. And Jeroen, you're right, despite the file thinking it is 3.37, it ends just before 1.29. |
PhantomLord 23.09.2006 08:39 |
Thank you. Wonderful version. But it's a shame that is's overdubbed. |
Adam Baboolal 23.09.2006 09:34 |
Why is it all swamped in reverb? Nice find though! EDIT: Ah... this is recorded in a hall! |
John S Stuart 23.09.2006 09:55 |
This is actually 'Take 4' - NOT 'Take 1'. GB IQFC convention October 16th 2004, Vlaardingen, Holland: Unreleased Great King Rat (Vocal demo Version). Recorded early 1973. Freddie counts intro, different melody and lyrics and no electric guitars. GB IQFC convention Prestatyn 2005: Unreleased Great King Rat Early demo: Take 4 |
Bobby_brown 23.09.2006 10:01 |
Thanks for sharing. And thanks for the info, jonh S Stuart. Why did Freddie count to 10? Take care |
liam 23.09.2006 10:03 |
The count was possibly the time left for the guitar intro. So was the track we hear on the alvum recorded live like that with just bass, drums, acoustic and freddie, then obviously the electric parts and solo was recorded over the top. |
Rado 23.09.2006 10:43 |
Hi Raptor711 can we have an mp3 192 (or up) WORKING version ? thank you so much !!!!! |

This one is different to Take 4 - GB IQFC Maassluis, Holland 2005. Easily comparable: That one is announced by engineer as take 4, no Freddie counting, LOTS of additional guitars. That one is clearly a guitar-take. So what this download says; that this is a VOCAL take, makes sence realy. On this one you can clearly here the basic track is there. Bass, guitar, drums. Freddie's doing vocals and on this take their are clearly in a very early stage. Very different. Note then that on 'take 4 - the guitar take', the vocals are quite similar to the eventual album version. That's the stage where Brian is overdubbing or doubling his guitar parts and adding 'noise'. Evidently later on in the proces. |

Greg Brooks (Queen's "ARRchivist") plays these kind of things at the Dutch and UK Queen fanclub conventions. |

Ugh... if these recordings continue to be made available publically, then they'll stop playing them at conventions altogether. Why else do you think it has Greg's spoken disclaimer every 15-20 seconds? But this is a cool version of the song. The song is very undeveloped, as is Freddie as a vocalist overall. Very interesting listen. And it's definitely different from take 4 that was played in 2005. In take 4, the vocal melodies have been figured out, and there is Brian's second (live?) guitar track in addition to the guide track. |

Or even thinking, -I'm putting in a lead up of tape so there's plenty of room for that guitar intro I want.- It was the early days of their stuff. Peace, Adam. |

Sorry - indeed my my mistake. I was acting from memory. From notes, I have: Great King Rat 1: GB IQFC convention October 16th 2004, Vlaardingen, Holland: Unreleased Great King Rat (Early vocal demo version). Recorded early 1973. Freddie counts intro, different melody and lyrics and no electric guitar. 2: GB IQFC convention Prestatyn 2005: Unreleased Great King Rat (Take 4). Additional electric guitar. Album Version (5:43)- Queen: EMI CDP 7 462 04 2 De Lane Lea Original Demo 6:02 - In The Beginning: Miko QCD 01 BBC 03.12.1973 (6:01)- Queen At The Beeb: BOJCD 001 Exposed Fake Mono Demo - Exposed MC Early vocal demo 3:50 - Unreleased: Take 4 Early demo 3:40 - Unreleased: Small Odd Ends - Unreleased: So two different demo 'Great King Rat' versions were aired seperately in 2004 & 2005. Funny how one can get an idea into their head - but obviously the notes do not make mistakes! |

2004.10.16 - Dutch Fan Club Convention. - 1st Session: 01. Great King Rat (take 1) 3:48 - Freddie Mercury counts-in, different lyrics/vocals, 'vocalised' guitar, goes up to the bridge when Freddie Mercury counts-out. 2005.09 - 20th International Fan Club Convention, Prestatyn - and also: 2005.10 - Dutch Fan Club Convention. 05. Great King Rat (take 4) 3:40 – From QUEEN Sessions, Trident Studios, 1973. Very different, with alternate guitar outtakes and vocal overdubs, cuts halfway through. |
Jjeroen 24.09.2006 05:10 |
Now this is nice ;-) I knew there were differences between the sessions GB did in UK and in Holland - but I also always assumed that the played GKR demo's would be the same. (John, to compare; could you posts what you believe were the tracklists of the sessions?) Of course it would be even more interesting if we would get to hear the FULL vocal demo! ;-) Bob - I still think there is no big problem in sharing these recordings. In the early days, convention-recordings would end up on bootlegs that were sold. That's what they are trying to prevent with the 'property'-overdub. The future? Hmm... there will be no more Dutch conventions anyway... ;-) Let's hope GB will play something extra to markt his final performance in Holland ;-) |

That's what they are trying to prevent with the 'property'-overdub.QP threatened that they'd stop playing the songs if the bootlegging continued. Sharing the songs on a forum is pretty much putting the nail on the coffin, if they find out. I'm sure we all recall a certain member of QP posting here now and again... |

Great stuff! And QP shouldn't get worked up over all this.. Okay, if these songs make someone money i can understand.. But sharing with fans on a forum? We're not punishing QP for STILL not releasing those boxed sets are we? |
