FLAC is NEVER lossy
The levels are to do with the amount of compression. It doesn't affect the result, but the higher the compression, the longer it takes to compress/decompress them (decompression doesn't matter if you have a FLAC plug-in for your music player and/or burning program).

Exactly... and the higher the level of compression, the smaller the file is.
