I think anyone who thinks this is the best EJ effort since "Blue Moves" or whatever you consider his last classic effort. Anyone thinking that is ... smoking something illegal. Atleast in my opinion.
This is like Peachtree Road - part two. The production, the aOR-schmaltz, the inclusion of one pointless lack-lustre rocker (PTR had They Call Her The Cat, this one has Just Like Noah's ARk) And the lyrics are ever-so predictable?
Is the Bernie Taupin here really the same guy here who wrote such moving pieces like "Ballad of the Boy" and "American Triangle" not too long ago? Not to mention his lyrics in the classic works...
The only song that really sounded good from the first listen was the title song. And of course the reason for that is the CPTFantastic melody that leads into it...
Frankly I'd hate to say this album is more of a "grower", because that means that even the worst crap will sound good after I give it a few hundred listens.
Not anywhere as good as SFTWC, not anywhere near as good as it's autobiographical predecessor Captain Fantastic was. Not even from the same universe.
But then again, I'm glad that after so many albums Elton and Bernie still do bother to make new music at all.

If you have what is your favourite track
I plan to buy it later this week hopefully
The whole album is solid and great. Its a peice of art, no one single track should be singled out ;)
I know this is dumb, but I trust your taste in music... What do you think a good "starter", I guess, Elton John album would be ? I don't like buying "Greatest Hits" things... And, if you feel like it, we're also looking for reccomendations for a Frank Zappa album ! :D
Oops. We've gone all low on video memory...
Oh. Wow. That was weird. Goodbye QZ, you'll be rid of me for at least five minutes since I have to restart my computer...

Hey, thanks for the trust!(And no! it is not dumb its sweet!) :D Ah, a good Elton John starter is definately the self-titled album(Elton John) its his 2nd album and is just lucious in production, Madman Across The Water is also a good start(Very depressing to me for some reason, I adore it though). If you are looking to get into the more upbeat(instead of depressing) Elton John, I recommend Honkey Chateau and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road(I recommend this album HIGHLY)after listening to those, move on to Tumbleweed Connection and Captain Fantastic and the Dirt Brown Cowboy for more of a concepty, epic feel for albums(Although his most epic is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road for sure) Ah! Frank Zappa! You just keep on impressing me my friend! Definately get the album "Freak Out!" first, its full of musical goodness, one musn't forget that Zappa NEVER touched drugs, features some of his most rememberable tunes(Motherly Love, Who Are The Brain Police? etc) Although the easiest one for me to get into was "We're Only In It For The Money", its done impeccably well, the production is top notch, and he truly is the master of different styles, from doo-wop to avant garde ;). If you are a fan of instrumental music, I definately recommend "Hot Rats", it's my fave Zappa album, alas its all instrumentals(done BEAUTIFULLY) with no vocals except from Captain Beefheart for the song "Willie The Pimp". So to re-cap
Elton John:
Highly Recommended First Choices:
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road(Balanced nicely)
Madman Across The Water(Eltons "Prog-Rock" Album)
Other Amazing Albums:
Elton John(So Sad, So beautiful)
Honkey Chateau(Amazingly Elton)
For The Concepty Person Inside Of You:
Tumbleweed Connection(Cowboy Rock Opera)
Captain Fantastic And The Dirt Brown Cowboy(His life, from a near suicide experience to hitting fame)
Frank Zappa:
Highly Recommended First Choices:
We're Only In It For The Money(Great place to start)
For The More Sophisticated You(Dare To Get These Ones First!):
FREAK OUT!(Diverse as hell, Amazing, get this first if you can handle it :D)
Hot Rats!(Instrumental galore, beautiful)
Hope this helps, if you happen to get any of these and enjoy them let me know ^_^
Out of respect for the forums, I will not quote all of that ! :D
But thank you (also, for telling me that you replied, since... I didn't notice...) !! I had tried to ask my parents for the same advice, but... they couldn't give any (just a funny look)...
I shall print off your list and wander around campus (since I am poor and can currently only afford to buy used CDs...) !
Thank you ! I shall consume a truffle in your honour !
