well, i'm asking this for a friend. my friend bought "The Game" and asked me if there was a story behind the song "Sail Away Sweet Sister". is there a story behind it? Did Brian's mother have a miscarriage or something? Please help. Thanks. |

i think he was just lamenting about being an only child. |

i read it was about him at one point wanting a baby sister |

Once, I wanted a baby brother. Now, I've got one - and I want it to go away. |

Or maybe in the same way as BoRhap was about Freddie coming to terms with being gay, SASS was about Brian coming to terms with being a woman trapped in a man's body...interesting possibility, hmm? |

I think he was drunk when he wrote that song, you DON'T want a sister Brian... I have one and am one myself, I know how irritating they are |

that's kind of like saying, "don't listen to music, because i heard this song and it was just DREADful." |

I actually have a theory about this song, but I think it would be inappropriate to have such a discussion in public. |

Well, I just think he wanted a baby sister. Why is that so hard to believe? I wanted one once, but my mum has actually had two or three miscarriages.. Could have had yet another older brother or sister - maybe two - and a baby sister/brother. Kinda scary... 6 or 7 children.. pfew xD |

Some people have told me that it was deticated to the sister I never had. I love that song. It deeply touches my heart. I wrote a letter to brian on his soapbox asking him what inspired him to write the song, but I got no reply. It's okay though. I know he must be busy. |

I think it's about Brian's sister that was either a miscarriage or infant death. I heard this years ago, so the information is definitely suspect. I also heard that Brian's #1 regret in Queen history was that he didn't step aside and let Freddie sing lead on this song. I'm personally glad he didn't, not that I wouldn't want to hear the results, but because of how great a job Brian does on it. A Great song for sure!!!! |

Influenced lyrically and perhaps in sentiment by the Beatles' 'She's Leaving Home'? Lyrics Wednesday morning at five o'clock As the day begins Silently closing her bedroom door Leaving the note that she hoped would say more She goes downstairs to the kitchen Clutching her handkerchief Quietly turning the backdoor key Stepping outside, she is free She(we gave her most of our lives) Is leaving (sacrificed most of our lives) Home (we gave her everything money could buy) She's leaving home, after living alone, for so many years (bye bye) Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown Picks up the letter that's lying there Standing alone at the top of the stairs She breaks down and cries to her husband "Daddy, our baby's gone. "Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly? How could she do this to me?" She (we never thought of ourselves) Is leaving… |

nice necro Holly. yes, there's certainly lots of lyrical parallels between the two. |

STL vocals ok. It's Late? Don't really care... |

mooghead wrote:STL vocals ok. It's Late? Don't really care...oh yeah! absolutely. IMO far and away Freddie, Brian and Roger's finest vocal piece. wonder if the 24-track has something like 8 (or more) vocal tracks (WATC has 7)? now that would be stunning. as for It's Late - my reason: Freddie's alternative vocals (NOTW 40) - how much more was never heard? some of the vocal phrasing/punctuation is really nice. and the alt lyrics would be nice to "play around with" Brian's guitars - the rough mix has some interesting variances coming out of 4:00m onwards |
