Well, I suppose I've got poor taste. Or, at least, slightly askew taste. This is the thread for people who like those Queen albums that would indicate a poor taste like, The Works, The Miracle, Hot Space... et cetera. So, declare here your poor taste. We'll be tasteless together. In my tastelessness, I really enjoy The Miracle and especially "Scandal" and I love "Was it All Worth it". Even if the direct question in the title of the second doesn't appear to include correct punctuation. I also like their "gimmicky" songs like "Man on the Prowl" and "Seaside Rendezvous". I have no taste and I like it as it allows me to listen to Queen II and then switch to The Works and still be happy as an adorable little clam. |

You may have just summed up what Queen is all about. I enjoy The Prophet's Song immensly right after sitting through Pain is So Close To Pleasure (possibly the only Queen song that makes me cringe). Queen were never afraid to get it all wrong, and if they did they did it royally. Some may argue they have continued that tradition with Paul Rodgers, but I'm not one of them. |

Ok, I have to tell you I love the song A Kind Of Magic, I think it's just classic and contrary to popular opinion I don't think it's cheesy at all!! :D:D |
deleted user 12.09.2006 15:51 |
well...i love "pain is so close to pleasure," so i guess i've got poor taste. i like the "when your plans go wrong" part...maybe that's just me:) basically the 80s in general were a totally tasteless decade. but if something makes you happy, then who's got the right to tell you you're wrong? and anyway, if you appreciate more music, you'll get the last laugh, because you'll be happier and less stressed and live longer XD |

Look, this is the place for NOT HAVING taste. If you've got taste, that is wonderful, but this is a support group for people who lost their musical "taste buds" at a very young age. ... My mom doesn't really like Jazz, but she likes The Miracle and Sheer Heart Attack. See, that's where I get the lack of taste from. Only, I do like Jazz. But that's not important right now, what is important is that daffodils are hermaphrodites. |
deleted user 12.09.2006 21:54 |
sheer heart attack isn't bad taste! jazz is half-and-half taste-wise. fun it is pretty bad taste, i'm not sure if even my taste is that bad...and fat bottomed girls, while not "poor taste" per se, is rather "tasteless," from a thematic perspective. i love it, so i guess i both have poor taste and am tasteless. hey, body language anyone? first time i heard it, i hated it, now i confess to putting the music video on constant replay... |
deleted user 12.09.2006 22:05 |
I haven't got taste... how do I know what Sheer Heart Attack counts as ?! I know it IS liked by the "very selective tastes" crowd. Some people would say that liking Queen AT ALL is poor taste... Oh, I also think Freddie was hilarious - and I've heard his jokes were supposed to be tasteless. There we go. No taste. Some day, I'll bring you all down to my level, and our brains will all rot together. But so far, my friends still tell me I've not got good taste since I don't think Orlando Bloom is "hot". |

fuck it, I like it all. And im not a stepford fan. I just happen to love it all. |

Seriously, Queen have gathered a lot more of so called street credibility since those days. So have bands like Abba and the like. I still resent the fact that Freddie's death was probably the main cause for this. |

But, speaking of people in general, I think the MANNER of Freddie's death is the exact reason why the people in my area seem to dislike Queen. Now, I don't want to turn this thread into one of THOSE "people at my school think Queen is crap" threads ! But the truth here is that if anything is connected to "gay stuff", you will take crap publicly for it (you never get as far as, "Well, have you ever actually listened to their music ?" or "You do realise they wrote <song name>, right ?"). I've heard it was worse in the 80's, but I live in a "small rural community", so we're still stuck back a few decades... ON A HAPPIER NOTE : Yey poor taste ! "Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid comes easy." - Albert Einstein. |

do you guys read george starostin's reviews? here's an exerpt from the queen one: "The final verdict will be painful for you if you're an intelligent Queen fan, but alas, it is based on reality: Queen are especially attractive for the 'pseudo-intellectual' music fans, that is, the kind of dudes who are way too slow, close-minded and poor-educated to recognize really timeless music like Genesis, King Crimson, or Jethro Tull, but which are quick to jump on the Queen bandwagon because... because, after all, the music of Queen is quite suitable for those people." of course, a million queen fans wrote in and he eventually decided he was being too harsh...but it does illustrate the perspective that audacity cited...i actually enjoy his reviews, even though i don't always(usually) agree!:) |

to be truthful, most people at my (former) school don't even know who freddie is, much less that he was gay...they're just like, "queen? like, bohemian rhapsody? AW, ROCKZORS!!!!" it's a rudimentary kind of respect, but it's still respect:) |

I like all three of these albums - they all have some great songs on them Hot Space: Dancer - cool 80's groove Life Is Real - Nice sentiment Las Palabras De Amor - I'm not gay, but the sweetness in Freddie's voice on this one...I woulda let him. Cool Cat - Freddie falsetto - mahhvelous! Under Pressure - Great song, plain and simple The Works - how can anyone say this wasn't a great album??? With the exception of Passing the Open Windows, every song on this album rocks! The Miracle - Come on! Okay, so My Baby Does Me and Hang On In There were weak, and Chinese Torture is a downright nasty gag, but the rest of this album is first-rate. |
