Hi everybody,
I recently read an article about John Deacon and there was stated that he invented the Deacy Amp and that Brian also used for some songs.
What I wanted to know is what does the Deacy Amp ?
Special sounds effects or so ? I don't know.
cheers
Basically John Deacon built a small amp from the parts of a stereo, and powered by a 9 volt battery.
Brian used it and found that he could overdrive it to such an extent that it created some rather pleasing tones, due to it's size the tones that come out of it tend to sound like trumpets and horns, most of Good Company was put together using it.
Brian never uses it on stage however you can now buy a VOX version that does a great job and also to new Brian May pedal emulates the sound well.
Think of the classic Brian harmony sounds such as God Save the Queen and you have it.
it is used on numerous queen songs. Heaps of songs actually. Its even used at the ned of bohemion rhapsody just after freddies piano comes back, its thouse synthaiser kind of sounds.
Is there an album where it isnt used.

I'm the lucky owner of a Deacy Amp.
This little box surprises you with it's huge sound. Offcourse it's not as load as the most bigger onces, but he is loader than other amp's from his size. Apart from the white color it also has a brilliant disortion built inside. The great Brian May sound :-).
I use it in my band and link it through a ENGL E412SS Cabinet (the same one Ritchie Blackmore uses), this makes the little Vox much loader :D.
John first found the beginings of the Deacky amp in a builders skip and it was used in songs like March of the Black Queen. It was originally going to be Johns practice bass amp, but Brian found another awesome use for it. He's still got it too.
