It's about the context. I've been arguing with a couple of school friends about what it's about. My parents say it's about heroin. I agree with them. I know the lyrics are 'Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good/Brown sugar just like a young GIRL should but: a)How many girls TASTE of anything? b)Perhaps the 'girl' is just a metaphor? A personification of the drug heroin. (My friends think it's about a girl)and said friends should be thinking outside the box? So what is the song about?? Drugs, dark coloured girl or something else entirely? |

Question:How many girls TASTE of anything? Its not about Heroine, like one would assume, its about "eating out" a girl as you kids now say it. Oral sex to a woman. Trust me, I'm a huge Rolling Stones fan, this song is seriously one of the more literal ones(She's a Rainbow is one of those tricky hidden messages one). Cheers |

It's easier to see the girl "symbolizing" heroine than "brown sugar" symbolizing a pussy. |

Oh dear god. Heterosexuals are so gross! But just because something happens to be about a black girl doesn't make it racist at all. It's just narrowing it down. Queen using the term "nigger sugar" (in March of the Black Queen) is a bit more racist if you ask me. Especially when they coulda said 'bit of sugar' instead. |

Especially as Freddie himself could have been subject to prejudice (I don't think he was of course) being educated in, and having family from, Asia, and later on, being gay. So when it comes to MOTBQ it makes no sense. I don't think Freddie meant any offence with 'nigger sugar,' just bizarrely it sounded more poetic and seemed in context with the evil 'Black Queen' |

That 'Brown Sugar' song by the Rolling Stones is a straight up trip if you ask me!!!!!!!!!! (the song actually makes me soooooooooo sick to the stomach, the same with their 'Harlem Shuffle' song) I'm black, and it just left me speechless when I heard the lyrics!!!!!!! I'm like, so basically their saying that BW are only good for one thing...DOESNT surprise me!!!! March of the Black Queen did also, I cant believe Freddie wrote NIGGER in the lyrics...but I still have to carefully listen to this song before I make my observation. I actually just brought Queen II, what is the meaning being 'March of the Black Queen'; because its still VERY hard for me to understand!!!! |

I'm pretty sure Mick Jagger is far from being a racist. He is friends with and adores/idolizes Tina Turner for one thing. And Keith Richards worked with Aretha Franklin on a remake of Jumpin' Jack Flash... I think it's just silly to think they had any racist intentions. If anything, they may have been going for a little shock value/publicity but I still don't see how indicating that the girl was black makes it somehow evil.. if anything it's saying how much better things were with her.. LOL As for Queen, my only guess was that this term used to be slang for 'brown sugar' itself, also known as maple sugar (which I used to eat by the chunk as a kid). I always thought the lyric was "a little bit of sugar" until I read the lyrics and was a bit shocked to see otherwise. It's hard to make an excuse for Freddie or Queen when I don't know what the meaning of the song is to begin with either. Then again what do you expect from a monster-toothed arabic faggot like Freddie anyway? . . . . . . . . That last bit was a joke... |

I can sense the sarcasm in that comment, anywho, back to the subject at hand... I'm not saying that either Queen or Rolling Stones were racist...I'm just saying the lyrics (Brown Sugar) lyrics, makes it seem like BW are only good for one thing, which isnt true...something about it that rubs me the wrong way, but hey, thats just my thought on it...brb |
