Hi All, Just got back from the Dominion Theatre & must say A great night was had by All. Everyone was in good spirits, The second half of the show was better, than the first half, it took the first half for everyone to loosen up. The Cast even ad-libbed a bit. McFly appeared through the floor of the stage to sing "Don't Stop Me Now" with the cast(Killer Queen & Kashoggi) The best part of the night was of course when Queen took to the stage, Brian appeared from floor of the stage during the guitar solo of "Bohemian Rhapsody", followed by roger on the drums at the back of the stage for the heavy bit of the song. Next it was Brian who took centre stage to Perform "Love Of My Life", Roger then joined him to sing "say it's Not True" Ben Elton then did a talk, followed by Queen & the cast performing "The Show Must Go On" one final get together on stage for Queen, The cast & the House Band (Including, Spike & Neil Murry) Ben Elton & McFly, as they played out with "God Save The Queen" Final Verdict:- Absolutly Brilliant!!!! a great night to celebrate Freddie's 60th Birthday, Brian & Roger rocked. |

McFly?? Glad I did not witness that. |
Shane Jazz 05.09.2006 22:46 |
Actually it sounds like quite a nice gesture by McFly to appear at a celebration of Freddie's birthday. It shows that perhaps they really do appreciate the role of Freddie's songwriting in getting them to number one last month. Love 'em or hate 'em, it was a nice gesture. |
A Word In Your Ear 05.09.2006 23:12 |
One Disappointment, I thought Deacy should have made the effort to attend, even if was only to walk on the stage to say hello to the fans. But, we can't have everything, can we? |
Deacon Fan 05.09.2006 23:47 |
That sounds very nice. Thanks for the report :) I think McFly are adorable and their sense of humor is something Freddie would have appreciated. Indeed it would have been nice if John made an appearance, but he's entitled to remember Freddie privately and let go of Queen if he wishes to :) |

good to hear you guys had a good time i thought the surprise was going to be elton john or Darkness or foo fighters seeing they are close to Queen well Elton john was he was freddie mate but heard you say mc fly i have nothing against them good for them to sing dont stop me now but i feel better now i am glad i didnt rush about to get a ticket lol mc fly no thanks i will be off to see the show over christmas 2nd time that will do |

Even to say Hi, loyality to Freddie my arse, took him 7 years to retire after Freddie's death. |

Leave the guy alone for Christ sake, he has left the music business and moved on. In many ways he was effected more than the others by Freddie's death, and I think he is entitled to live in peace without feeling guilty everytime he doesn't show up. I am sure one day he will make one last appearance with Brian and Roger, but my guess is it will be the final time we see them on stage. |
FriedChicken 06.09.2006 07:10 |
It's more likely to see Freddie on stage in the future than John |

It's an interesting one this. My sister HATES Quen but was given VIP Passes by a friend that she went with in a group of 10. She called me from the show and said that they were having an awesome time. She also reckoned it was the best thing she had ever seen. Personally, I'd rather have my teeth ripped out than have to sit through that fucking musical again - once was enogh, believe me, with second-rate singers trying to do what Brian and Roger could barely imitate and that Paul Rodgers has done so well. People prancing around in costumes telling a story that has been told a thousand times before in other films / musicals about the power of music is just not my thing. The fact that McFly were invited as a special guest kind of sums up what Queen's target audience is with the musical too - getting the Darkness or Foo Fighters in wouldn't really be to the taste of too many in the sudience I wouldn't think - too heavy and too rocky. Disposable cover version pop shit churned out by the likes of McFly is just what the doctor ordered from people that watch X-Factor and other reality show bullshit. It's just Karaoke Queen! However, maybe it's changed the perception of Queen's music in my sister's mind. And if it's been able to do THAT, then I suppose it really can't be all that bad, can it. "Each to their own sewerage" - Pete Townshend circa 1996. |

I can't argue with the rest of your comments (as the story obviously doesn't hold any merit for you, and I can understand that), but I had to support these leads as I thought they were excellent. As for McFly, I have nothing against them. They do what they do, and I find some of their songs catchy. I thought their DSMN cover was okay. Is a bit of a strange choice really from the point of view of celebrating Freddie, rather than, say Elton John, but I guess it is in keeping with the current attitude of QPR and the musical, and as you say, this forum proves what you say about the majority of the musical's target audience being the kind who would appreciate McFly appearing (in that many on this forum don't like McFly or the musical). I'm surprised that there wasn't a separate "celebration" by Spike's All Stars like the one done for the 10 year anniversary. That would've been more to the liking of the majority of Queen fans |

How do you know he was affected more than the others? Didn't Brian end up receiving therapy and pondered on suicide, while John was pictured with strippers, how upset was he. |
Togg 06.09.2006 09:10 |
Actually I am quoting Roger regarding John, and as for Brian he was in therapy for an entirely different reason stemming from is personal life, it had nothing to do with Freddie's death. |

I might get slated for this but i don't care the questions raised about john deacon are not only valid but worthy of a answer, having been part of a mega group and then slipping away and retiring i still think that it would have been common decency and respect if not to turn up and make an appearance then to send somesort of message that he's thinking about him and be involved in some way. I am suprised and really appalled that there's no comment from him at all for once i would have to say John deacon you should be ashamed of yourself pah!!! call yourself a friend. tut tut. |
Lester Burnham 06.09.2006 10:17 |
There's always the possibility that he wasn't invited, or maybe there's some bad blood between Brian and Roger and John. Who knows - we can assume until we're blue in the face, but we'll never know the real story. Queen were never a band to air their dirty laundry in public, and I don't see any reason why they would start now. |
Togg 06.09.2006 10:25 |
I don't suppose he is losing any sleep over it, it's not like Freddie is alive to get upset when he didn't show up. When he retired from the music business he meant it, he wants to sit back and not get involved from this point on, every time Queen do something people now say he has to come back and make an appearance, why? he has left the band, so he still gets paid, so will we all if we produce anything that still receives royalties when we retire, it doesn't mean we have to keep standing up and saying thank you. He did go to the premier and has offered his support to the guys, I do see why he has to continuously show up after that, it was Fr eddies 60th Birthday so what, he's not here to enjoy it, and it was Brian and Roger that decided to do something to celebrate it, I don't think it's something so important that he is obligated to turn up, now if say Another one bites the dust wins a major Ivor Novello award, then yes I would say he should be there to receive it, but personally I don't think last night was out of order. I am sure he celebrated in his own way ;-) |

from some ol' farts.... This simply sounded like one fun, grand evening. OK, so the musical isn't the greatest, yet we enjoyed it immensely. Wish like hell someone had a video of last night.....from ten seconds before 'BoRhap' until the end. Would absolutely love like hell to see that. As well as Freddie's mum and sister in the audience. Must have been one special night. |

John doesn't owe anything to Queen fans - he gave enough of himself when he wasn't retired. I can't believe people are still ragging on him after all this time. It's pretty sad. I guess Serry and I will be enemies of John bashers together. ;-P |

Very poor organization - no "celebrities" at all (unless you count Jim Beach), no charity auction, fancy dress competition = 2 sentences about winners. NOTHING. Special programmes sold out immediately - limited edition (damn, I need one for my collection!). The musical itself - not as bad as I thought. Poor storyline but some very good jokes in there. Enjoyed the show. Brian & Roger in BoRhap were cool. The best track from the musical is undoubtedly the instrumental WWRY fast - it ROCKS! Queen set - very short, no surprises at all (why did B&R rehearse for hour and a half?) but perfectly suitable for this purpose. Some of the costumes were amazing! (And embarrassing in the same time). Find some photos, it's worth it. Overall a very good party. I definitely enjoyed it. |

I saw the musical twice before (London and Cologne) and I never liked it much but Tuesday was not about the musical. On Tuesday the audience was a Queen audience and not a WWRY crowd and it showed. There was incredible screaming and singing and clapping - Brian said he never witnessed something similar and it could be true. Before the show it was already an event to see all the people in costumes (even Mr. Scully dressed up but I won't tell you:) and the many familiar faces from the tour and conventions, for example our own Queen Archivist who walked the red carpet with all the other fans:) All of you made it an unforgettable night with many emotional moments. There were various script changes to fit the occasion and I am sure I did not notice half of them not being too much into the musical but I am pretty sure the "It's A Beautiful Day remix" is not played as an intro routinely. At certain points the audience took over so that the cast had to wait until they could go on. The first outcry was during the intro when the screen said "September 5th Freddie Mercuy would be have been 60" wow - no year and a Freddie spelt with a y ! A collective scream responded to this blasphemy. Brian rose from the stage bottom for the BoRhap solo wearing an outfit that looked like his white and red outfit he used to wear on the Magic Tour and Roger appeared with his drum kit for the Rock section. Then Brian performed LOML and Brian and ("here comes my soul brother") Roger "Say It's not true". After a short speech by Ben Elton Bri/Rog joined the cast for TSMGO which finished the show. That was about 11 PM - so much for the "late" ending of the show Brian had announced on his website, good joke Brian :) - However, the fans kept on partying in various bars nearby. The German group collectively took a night bus to the airport at 3 AM to leave in various morning flights - see you soon, guys:) |

DAMN! Im so jealous of you Scully and YV! Sounds like it went surprisingly well. Here in the USA we had our own little celebration starting with the Mercury play on the Cape, in which we celebrated the entire weekend (a large number of us about 35 people). We also toasted him on September 5 a game which we play every year we watch videos and everytime FM is on camera we drink a sip of Kristal. Lots of fun especially after all there videos are over. Our party lasted until 4 AM EST. We played "The Untold Story" as well. A lot of sniffling but a lot of great music and videos to have forever. Thanks Mr. Mercury...forever in your fans hearts! Cheers, ROCKMAMA |

I was there with Mr. Scully and three other fans. The show was perfect and very emotional but I think Brian and Roger could play No-One But You or some other song which didn´t play on tour. Before the show I knew some fans, for example YourValentine and Knebworth. And now I salute you!! Thorsten, DVDs are perfect!! Thanks. |
