Hi guys and gals, sorry if this is lame or boring but i need to know, what happened to Royal Vision, you know the Queen fan club based in Warren, Mi? I know they ran off with about $500 of my money! Anyone else here ripped by them? I just remembered this cause i was looking through some old Club magazines of various memberships i have had, mostly the OQFC, but i ran across quite a few of the RV ones. I think the last one i have is from '97, but i can't remember when they never reponded to my calls or letters about my fake reservations to the Queen convention i saved all summer (i was in HS) for and they stole. lol Real nice people i tell ya! lol Also, does anyone remember who ran this club? |

I heard the husband and wife team got into debt over sellling a Queenopoly game. I think the husband's name was Sandy (and he won the UK mastermind trivia in 95 or 96. I am surprised that you lost money over a convention. I do not believe that they announced a Queenvention in 1997 ... at least I did not register and I tended to register early. |

Ahhh that name brings back memories. I went to one of their conventions. Had a great time! It was certainly nice to have a north american based source of Queen info before the internet and before they became popular here again. Wasn't one of their names Nan? |

Feel a need to pipe in here.... Royal Vision folded under debious reasons...reasons someone touched on above ( the Queenopoly game, and many other things) and it took me YEARS to finally hear the truth about what happened. Whenever i would ask about it, everyone involved gummed up and would'nt give me a clue...so i totally understand your curiousity. I'm sorry to hear about you losing a lot of your money. I'm not going to go into the details here out of respect for those that were involved as i am sure they would rather not have this all brought up again and plastered about publically on QZ. In a nutshell: Money coming into the Club was misshandled. I think that's the best way of putting it.... Royal Vision had a long and glorious history until it's sad demise in 95' if a remember right. The "Nan" mentioned above was involved in RV for many years but was NOT involved in what happened that spelled the end of the Club. I feel a need to state this. Nan did many great things for RV back in the day and a lot of US Fans have a great respect for this. Kara and Sandy ran the Club up until the end, and the last QueenVention was held in 1995. I remember it well as the title for the "final" Queen Album ( Made in Heaven) was announced for the first time that night at the Event. I also have a great videotape of it. There were no further US Conventions for a while afterwards as RV ceased to exsist almost immediately afterwards. I remember attending the UK Con in May of 1997 and part of my time there was spent meeting up with old RV Members trying to figure out a way to put together our own Convention for people. That never happened, but a few years later some ex-RV Members DID make it happen...thus "Breakthru" was born. It took me many years to finally get the whole story about what happened exactly, as it was strange how all of a sudden RV folds up after reaching such hieghts at that time ( even with Offical FC support! Holy Crap...even John Deacon wrote us a personalized message on QPL letterhead to be read at what was the last QV!). Suddenly Kara and Sandy dissapeared off the face of the Earth ( literally ..) and everyone was left scratching there heads wondering what was up. Sadly, sometimes when you become successful it leads you to temptations.....and this i think had a lot to do with what became of RV. I loved Royal Vision. I was a huge supporter back in the day, contributing to the Newsletters and also various things for the QueenVentions. It was awesome, and it's hard for people today to realise just how GREAT and incredibly IMPORTANT it was to the US Fan base who were "cut-off" over here in the States from the world of Queen. This was long before the Internet took off and Queen were pretty much forgotten here in mainstream America. The only news or info we could get about the Band was thru the OIQFC, or locally through Royal Vision. This Club started in 1985/6 if a remember right, and the goal was to bring Queen back to the States to tour. Who would have known that 20 years later it would finally happen? In the meantime they held many Events including the fabulous QueenVentions ( still the best conventions i have been to to date) and X-mas parties and other get togethers. In later years RV helped fans secure tickets when Brian May brought his Band to tour here a couple of times and organized meet and greets with him. Also it must be said that the appearence of the BM Band on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno they had a hand in....expecially literally as several RV Club Members were in the audience that night when the show was taped for broadcast! All those yelps and screams were bonified RV Members! So yeah, RV was a great club and it was a terrible pity that such a neat organization fell by the wayside. |

I personally dont care about how theiving theives feel about how their indescretions are perceived on a forum. Is it that you promised the personwho told you that you wouldn't tell? |

Sounds like one of the owners was a junkie and blew all the money they made through it on junk. Then did a runner. |

Nan always seemed like a good person from what I could tell. I didn't go to the convention here in Warren though. Not because I didn't want to, but because you had to get a hotel room to go. I was short on cash at the time and, more importantly, I live like 10 minutes from the hotel they held it at, so it was ridiculous to me to have to get a room there when I could sleep in my own bed. It's a shame they never succeeded in bringing them back to the States while Freddie was alive. |

The Queenventions were absolutely fantastic...I was so disappointed when suddenly it disappeared and I seem to recall losing some money with that too but I was more disappointed with not having Queenventions... I loved that they did them in different places ie Detroit, New Jersey, Philly, Chicago, Cincinnati, Oberlan(?) Ohio, Chicago etc. Nan did tremendous things with it (and other Queen related events for us fans) and definitely should never be associated with the demise...I think things got a little political but isn't that always the case...I was never close enough to know what was going on though... Good thing some good RVers carried on which then evolved into Breakthru which has been great too...loved the one this year in Toronto many thanks to Jorgen for his efforts with that...North American Queen fans will find a way |

Royal Vision was a lifeline for a lot of us back in the 80s and 90s. Always wondered what happened at the end. Just thought it fizzled out. Still have the old RV newsletters.... |

Still have the old RV newsletters....Since you wrote that you have (some?/all?) RV newsletters, maybe you can help me? I am trying to find all the dates for the Queenventions and I can't find the dates for 1991. Would you - or someone else - care to check the following list and add something to this where needed? Thanks in advance! Queenventions 1987-2000 1987 - July, 24-26 (Virginia) 1988 - August, 12-14 (Detroit) 1989 - August, 12-14 (New Jersey) dates might be wrong? 1990 - August, 3-5 (Cincinati) 1991 - ?? (Philadelphia?) 1992 - August, 7-9 (Illinois) 1993 - August, 20-22 (Oberlin) 1994 - July, 29-31 (Buffalo) 1995 - August, 4-6 (Detroit) 1996 - August, 30 - September 1 (Detroit) 1997, none 1998, none 1999, none 2000, August 18-20 (Detroit) cancelled? |

97-99....I know there was one in Cleveland, as they toured the RnR HOF. 2000 did take place. It was my first one. A hilarious moment occurred when Hector (dressed as Freddie during the SHA era) was doing his bit with a fog machine, and someone in the hotel called the fire department on us, thinking that it was smoke! |

Walter B...... 2001 was the first official North American Queen convention (I was one of the seven organizers). It was named 'Breakthru' (my idea) due to the band getting into the RnR HOF that year. From the usual 30-50 attendees, the attendance that year was over 400 'Breakthru' was held in the Detroit suburb of Romulus last weekend (we went to Cooperstown instead). Visiting the HOF in 2001 was up to the attendees as to how and when to visit. In talking with my wife, the RV met in Cleveland and went to the HOF between 97-99, but she cannot recall the exact year. |

I was at each of the Queenventions from 1989-1995 with my buddies Steve, Jay and Mike from NY. Some folks might remember me as 'The Lovely Justin' (ugh lol)...when I helped out in the charity auctions, holding stuff up a few times. I also played keyboards with an impromptu band one year and Hector at least once, as well as some late night (early morning) hotel room sing-a-long jams. Those days were amazing..absolutely great times and as has been stated before, truly a lifeline to Queen in the States when they were pretty much all but forgotten here. We got to see some great videos including one year where there was a pristine copy of Earl's Court lent by Jacky from the UK fan club, What happened to that VHS tape I don't know, but it was in better shape than anything that's been posted since. There were some efforts made to snag the tape and make a copycat it was kept under lock and key. Back in those days folks would bring a couple of VHS machines along to the conventions to trade. I remember one year where I spent a few hours copying audio interviews from someone using two boomboxes hooked up. As for Walter's list, 1991 might have been in Kentucky..as one of the 'Ventions was there and it's not listed here. So many crazy times and memories from those days. |

If you check Fbook, there are postings for the Breakthru convention(s). I am going to ask a friend who went to this year's event in Romulus (Detroit suburb). All I know, is that Ricky Gentry gave me a cold call one night, I scored 17 1/2 of 30 on the preliminary trivia, and 8/10 on the 'finals'. Not bad for zero warm up. Can almost guarantee that Stacy and Janet topped the 'alphabetical' game. Miss those gals. |
Grantcdn1 06.09.2018 02:06 |
For the lovely Justin lol....but seriously one of my cool partying buddies.....the Kentucky one was the same as the Cincinnati one...just that they always arranged a hotel somewhere near the airport and main airport is in Kentucky..... All those conventions were a blast...I think the one in Oberlin had 350+ people |
