I am going into a mourning period.. it might last quite a while.. during such time I will not be posting in this forum.. I am just devastated at the loss of such a great man... ok.. maybe I stretched the truth just a tad.. but I am still going to be observing a period of mourning where I shall not post. ta ta all |

Yeah, Mike it is really sad, that was my dawg!!! I used to always going around trying to talk like him in my fake aussie accent!! Sorry to hear that you wont be posting for a while... :( |
The Mir@cle 04.09.2006 02:51 |
Yeah... sad. The weird fact.. he was always playing with Crocodiles, and now he's killed by a stingray barb.. whatever it may be. |

I heard about that today. It makes me very sad that such a strong Australian icon has died. He's done some crazy stuff, but he really will be missed. R.I.P. Steve. |

Oh Christ.... this is going to be all over the news over here for *months* now. I might just leave the TV off for a while. It doesn't bother me so much that he's gone and offed himself - he knew the risks. I'm actually thinking more about the fact he's gone and widowed/orphaned his family with this stupid behaviour. I just hope the cameras were rolling; if nothing else, his death should be a warning to people *not to dick around with animals that can kill you*. Rest in Peace. |

Horriable way to go, I remember swiming by some stingrays before. He was so cool to watch, I guess I 'll pop in his movie in his memory. |
Mayboy 04.09.2006 08:01 |
I could hardly believe this when i saw it! I mean he came face to face with crocodiles, dragons, bears and snakes and it ended up being a Stingray that killed him. RIP there are few like him, he was great at what he did, i shall miss he's programs. |
Sebastian 04.09.2006 08:02 |
I just heard the news on BBC ... couldn't be more devastated. I'm so sorry about his kids, they couldn't spend much time with him, but I'm sure they'll make him proud, wherever he is now. |

Well, it seems that this incident was more bad luck than risky behavior. I mean, you can say, "They knew the risks of riding a roller coaster, so it's because of their stupid behavior that they died when it jumped its tracks." |
KillerQueen840 04.09.2006 11:23 |
I never really watched his shows. It's very sad, but at least he had a great life. He got to see many amazing places and animals, I am quite sure. He saw way more than we will probably ever see. As sad as it is that he died so young, at least his life had much fulfillment and excitement. RIP. |

I was SOOOOO upset when hearing this! Me and my family really liked him! He was my favourite Aussie! *cries* Anyway, my heart goes out to his wife, kids and work mates. They must be sooo devestated! Bless them! I mean, i always thought he would lose a leg or an arm but not die! RIP Steve, we love your passion for life and what you do is amazing. Our thoughts are with you always. :D |

It's so wierd isn't it? He held king cobras and captured aggresive crocs. But Mr.Irwin ended up getting killed by a stingray. I'm not saying that stingrays are totally safe, but I mean out of all the animals he's delt with, a stingray kills him. It's very sad that he died. My dad is a huge fan of him. |

Janet 04.09.2006 12:37 |
I will miss him alot, I was a big fan of him. Not many people 'speak for the animals' but Steve Irwin surely did. I just heard an interview on tv with the gentleman who was with him at the time, and he said that the stingray was hidden in the sand and Steve swam over him, and the spike on the base of the tail of the ray shot up, impaling his chest. Steve wasn't even interacting with the animal, it was truly just a freak accident. Such a shame. RIP |
deleted user 04.09.2006 12:42 |
I'm really saddened by this news, too. Steve Irwin was definitely a person that was full of life and I admire him for the jobs that he took on. |

PieterMC wrote: It sounds like it would have happened so fast that hopefully he did not suffer.Nah...it did happen fast. He would have bled to death, which is actually probably one of the fastest ways to go, and probably the least painfull since you'd black out first. Strange thing is, the video he was making showed him pulling the barb out of his chest. If he would have left it in, he could have survived. Those barbs are seratted, and he ripped the whole open and let loose all of the blood his heart was pumping when he did that. At least he was someone who definately lived life to the fullest, even if he had his idiotic moments. RIP Steve |

I do not understand these idiotic moments though. If you are referring to the baby incident well, I hardly think that's idiotic if you've seen the other angles you can see how far away from the crocoile he has his baby are. Additionally you can actually see the crocodile start to move away. Then again I think it's idiotic that there was a man who used to wrestle crocodiles. None the less he was good with what he did and was passionate. The Queensland Premier is offering the family a state funeral which I think would be appropriate. Funny how you never really appreciate someone until after they're gone. His manager related a story to the press conference that he and Steve had thought that if he were to die on an adventure that it wouldn't be on land but that it would be on sea. I am deeply saddened by his death. |
Mr.Jingles 05.09.2006 09:17 |
Animal Planet is one of the very few channels that I watch, as TV is mostly plagued by shitty low class entertainment. I truly admire people like Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin for their efforts to teach new generations about the beauty of wild life and the importance of conservation. Very sad news indeed. I can't imagine how much pain his wife Terri and kids must be going through. Steve will be dearly missed. |

Not sure if it has been mentioned but it was announced today that footage of it happening will be shown, something Steve would have wanted apparently. From what i have heard the footage consists of him swimming over stingray, the barb goes it, he pulls it out and dies. Question is do we actually want to see it. |
deleted user 05.09.2006 13:10 |
when are they gonna show this? :( |
Mayboy 05.09.2006 13:21 |
Well now they are saying it "may" not :- link |
.DeaconJohn. 05.09.2006 13:45 |
Oh come on, does anyone seriously believe they will show that footage? I'm assuming they will do everything they can to make sure it doesnt leak onto the internet either. It should be seen by as few people as possible. |
AspiringPhilosophe 05.09.2006 13:47 |
QUEENoftheskies747 wrote: when are they gonna show this? :(They probably won't. The tape is in the possession of the Coronor's Office, who is using it in conjunction with the autopsy to determine what happend. After that, they'll probably ask Steve's family what they want done with the tape. They will probably either have it destroyed or take possession of it permanently. Can't imagine why anyone would actually want to watch this, since we all know what happens. Trust me, I've seen videos of people dying (not Hollywood BS....actual people actually dying), and it's not a pleasant experience. Sometimes it's better not to see such things. |
deleted user 05.09.2006 13:56 |
I don't think I want to see it too, I would be shocked! |
***Marial-B*** 05.09.2006 19:14 |
I mean... I think it's sadistic to watch it like that... as sadistic are the news sometimes. I know it's very inevitable to do not see news about bombings and terrorist attacks like the ones in the WTC and London and Madrid, or the daily ones in Irak, or the recent bombing to Lebanon. But they can avoid showing the footage of someoen you were used to see dying by the attack of a wild animal... |
Joeker 05.09.2006 23:41 |
