When I heard Queen + Paul Rodgers and thought about it, I loved it! Perfect! The spirit, songs and active members of Queen putting on a new Queen tour, keeping the name in reference, but distinguishing it with a seperately mentioned '+ Paul Rodgers). It acknowledges two forces coming together to be joint, yet seperate.
Now with studio/album work it's a different scenario. It's no longer to forces coming together, it's now one new force whose music will soon include songs that are only half of Queen and Paul together in new artistic creation.
While Queen + Paul Rodgers still is workable for touring, this new album project needs a new name. There is nothing Queen-like about Paul's creativity as a writer or vocalist, nor is it fair to use Queen's name beside music that Freddie and John had absolutely zero part of.
Any name ideas out there? I won't be whinny or bent out of shape if they keep their current name, but it would be cool to see them identify themselves as a new force. I envision a name out there that should combine their legends. Something similar to, but way better than 'Royal Blue'(the 'Royal' reffering to Queen and 'Blue' reffering to blues music noting Paul). Lame name, I know. That's why I am posting this. Any ideas out there?
P.S. I wonder if Danny Miranda, Spike Edney and Jamie Moses will have anything at all to do with the album. I hope not. And who will produce? Not that they need help, but it would be cool as hell to see a reunion after so many years with Roy Thomas Baker.
I just hope that this is the first of multiple future albums by these guys.
a source has confirmed the new name of the group.
Grumpy Old Men+Grumpier Old Man.
i think its going to be great.will chart well in the Seniors Contemporary charts
Okay, I guess my intention was misunderstood. If they go with Queen + Paul Rodgers... wonderful! I merely was suggesting a new identity, not out of Freddie respect, but out of respect to Paul Rodgers and a 15 years later Brian and Roger. I think some sort of new name would open a new creative self concept for this band that only has a tour behind them.
Personally, if they changed their name back to just "Queen", I wouldn't be bothered at all. I was merely attempting to open a topic for anyone interested to offer any creative suggestions of a fresh name for a NEW creative force.
Example: When Free ended, Paul and the drummer of Free formed a new band. They could have called themselves Free in all probability, but they chose to create Bad Company. Would naming themselves Free pigeon hole their creative self concept towards writing songs similar to past Free tunes? Bad Company sounds quite different(in song writing style) than Free. In similar fashion, I believe a new name, opposed to Queen or Queen + PR, might have the same effect, helping Brian and Roger break free from trying to write Queen-like songs instead of whatever natural music they would create today.
Well nobody made a better suggestion so I propose that we now sent Brian an email and said that the QZ unaminous decided that they should rename themselve as Good Company. I can only dream about the fee of coming up with the name :-) Yes I'm rich ha ha ha ha
