link Does anyone have earl's court in this kind of quality? It looks pretty amazing. The webmaster says it is a DVD, but I have never came across a DVD version of this high quality. It almost looks like it is sourced from a master. |
Daveboy35 17.08.2006 06:52 |
I don't know but i agree it does look really good clear stills look professional where did u get this info from? |
Indo77 17.08.2006 07:28 |
Searches on google basically trying to track down a superior copy of this show. Someone here is bound to have it in that type of quality. |

And it's either missing Saturday Nights alright for Fighting or the encore was taken from the 2nd night. Oh and Keep Yourself Alive too. |

Look at this... link |

Both appear to be around the same quality. I have came across that site of pikkololuca's before. A while back on ebay someone was flogging a copy of earl's court which was supposily this range of quality but I was unsure to bid. I think the same ebay handle was selling a more complete version of Hammersmith 79' (not to be confused with the 3 source version). The DVD had an option to view the footage as a concert, the Concert for Kampuchea was an extra. |

Bloody hell, that's good quality! I have YV's encoding, but this is much superior! V. |

Hey one can never give up! Maybe he's nice enough to share it! |
Indo77 17.08.2006 10:29 |
Bloody hell, that's good quality! I have YV's encoding, but this is much superior! Is there notable differences between the quality of the 4 part svcd and the 2 part vcd? I have the latter and have often wondered is the 4 part version much of an upgrade. Jestem calkowicie oszolomiony! Tak jakbym sobie wymarzyl :) O niebo lepsze od poprzedniej wersji dvd. Zupelnie jak z vcd. Nic wiecej nie bede pisal bo to juz chyba 4 wersja :)Can anyone translate this? |
zephead2112 17.08.2006 10:39 |
This is how it comes out from an on-line translator; "I am staggered entirely! So as if I have cherished a dream about better sky from former version dvd. Completely as with (from) vcd. I will write nothing more because probably, it 4 version already" Probably enough to get the jist! Perhaps somebody can drop him a line. Any polish fans here? Cheers, Keith. |

Please note that an small JPG always looks better then the picture quality on a TV Screen. I believe this is the common quality. |

Darn I wish he did write more, I wonder what vcd version he is refering to? 4 part? Thanks for the translations. |
Rick 17.08.2006 11:41 |
Isn't this from the Miracle Express VHS? That one has really nice quality. |

No - not 4th generation. It's 4th version Earls Court he get: 1. 2x vcd, 2. 4 x svcd, 3. dvd with stills, 4. this one dvd ;) |
Jay Mantis 17.08.2006 18:26 |
I think Erik might be right. I doubt that a 4th generation copy would look that good. I'm not saying it can't but I really doubt it. |
KevMull 17.08.2006 20:08 |
My God... Why so impressed by 352 x 280 resolution still jpegs????? They're just glorified thumbnails! Look's like the standard stuff to me as Roy says. |
The Real Wizard 18.08.2006 00:26 |
This is the same as my copy. It's pretty good, but it's still a few gens from the master. |
Indo77 18.08.2006 05:01 |
Sir GH Does this version look like it was shot on video (i.e. like Houston, Kampuchea etc.)? I do like the YV version but I am disappointed by the way the show looks like it was shot on film as a result of the encoding process. Kevo I am aware that thumbnails glorify the image quality. My interest is that the show was recorded from a PAL 2nd/3rd generation video tape. |
Mustapha_Ibrahim 18.08.2006 05:27 |
I reckon the quality of that screenshots are not better than the average versions that are around.. BTW, does anybody here is close enough to Marijan and Rinus to ask them for a digital transfer of their Earls Court master tape? =) |
Indo77 18.08.2006 06:46 |
They have a website however it seems a while since it was updated. |

This one is a generation or two better. I actually don't mind the "film-ish" look. Visually it is the best version available on DVD so far. NOT sourced from VCD/SVCD.Opinions? |
SK 19.08.2006 11:48 |
hmmm I suppose now that we know how the dvd cover looks, we can look for the boot on ebay. I'll try to buy it and upload it for everyone(provided I can get it for a good price :/) :) |
Indo77 19.08.2006 12:04 |
This concert was originally recorded to be released as Queen's first live video, but due to some technical problems with Freddie's microphone it was never released.I don't understand this common belief. This concert was shot in 1977, roughly 5 years before VHS started to take (Beta vs VHS) off. I know that VCRs were about in the late 70s but they were unaffordable to most people. (I have a taped copy of The Multi-coloured Swapshop from 1979 - groovy stuff) |
YourValentine 19.08.2006 16:39 |
Could you explain to me what you mean by "I do like the YV version but I am disappointed by the way the show looks like it was shot on film as a result of the encoding process." ? It's a serious question, I really want to know. |
Indo77 19.08.2006 17:20 |
The quality is very good and is the best I have seen so far. All I mean is that I love the concert and appreciate the footage but I don't understand why the picture when played on a TV looks like the concert was converted from video to film (We Will Rock You look). Maybe it's my DVD player. I certainly hope I didn't offend anyone. |
Indo77 24.08.2006 06:57 |
Well the latest is I have sent of for the Miracle Express copy. It's only in VHS format though. |

Indo77 wrote: Well the latest is I have sent of for the Miracle Express copy. It's only in VHS format though. So you will end up with the same if you want to convert it to DVD. |
pcgenius9 24.08.2006 07:12 |
It all depends. The YV copy is from a VHS and one which was obviouslly not new - thats all! A transfer from a new VHS may not necessarily have the flicker etc of an older one. |
Indo77 24.08.2006 07:21 |
Would the best course of action be to transfer it to DVD as soon as I get it? I can rig up the VCR to the recordable DVD player and tape it in HQ. I don't know how much a prefessional transfer would cost? |

You do of course realize that the picture quality of the WWRY dvd is superior to anything QP has released, rightDon't be so condecending. There is a distinct difference. WWRY was originally shot on film. |
YourValentine 25.08.2006 05:08 |
My encoding came from an original miracle.nl tape that was lent to me by frank39. That was about 4 years ago and I am not sure they have better copies now. |
pcgenius9 25.08.2006 05:14 |
They were all put on film - thats how cameras work :s |
Indo77 26.08.2006 16:56 |
Right I understand I have somehow p1ssed alot of people off by my continuous posts on this topic. It is simply that since the 1990s I have had various incarnations of this concert (easily 5). I will not post again on it until I get the VHS. My ultimate aim was to somehow convert to DVD and upload it to rapidshare. |

You definitely did not annoy me, Indy77. I understand your ambition to get the best possible quality of EC 1977. I share this ambition. |
Indo77 02.09.2006 21:59 |
I got the Miracle Express VHS of the Earl's Court concert (yes this topic again). The quality is reasonably good (3rd generation) but the picture is extremely grainy. I recorded it to DVD (on 2 discs) but it didn't really solve the grain issue. The source is obviously from an old battered video tape from the 1980s. Would taken it to a professional studio help? |
