Beatles are amazing. In my opinion Elvis is a bit over-rated. Little Richard was the first true rock and roller, you are better off listening to him darlings :) |

Elvis was my first huge crush. I love Elvis and The Beatles. Such great classic acts will always be popular. |

Elvis is fuckin' overated. Couldn't write songs and could hardly play an instrument. His early years hit songs are about the only thing worth listening, but everything else is just boring covers of every single song from every single genre. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, and all the true pioneers of rock deserve far more credit then Elvis does. IMO, The Beatles should hold the title of KINGS of Rock n Roll. |

the beatles rock. but elvis overrated. he was always consistent with his musical style. and he influenced johnny cah into taking drugs! |

Call Elvis what you will. He is certainly the most successful cover artist of all time I'd say, very derivative in his musical style. But *what* a singer... you really are cheating yourself out of a good listen if you give up on Elvis simply because he couldn't write songs as well as you guys. But here's something I can definitely agree on - LITTLE RICHARD! My God, what a voice, what a piano player. The man was dynamite, and for so many years too. And as for the Beatles... you can instantly filter out intelligent people by asking them if the Beatles are overrated. Anyone who says yes just screams 'Dope'. They aren't taking into account the whole catalogue, there are at least 5 songs in there that *cannot* be dismissed, for technical reasons or for personal preference. |

The Beatles are legends. And I will never understand anyone who thinks they are overrated. |

<font color=red>Quonkers wrote: The Beatles are legends. And I will never understand anyone who thinks they are overrated. That's the craziest thing. They broke new ground that still in some ways isn't equalled. I consider "A Day In The Life" to be the one song I'd choose from the 60's to listen to. And I mean, it wasn't just "The Beatles" themselves, George Martin - what an innovator. That bunch just.... leaves me gobsmacked. I'm not saying Love Me Do is an equal of the sum of human knowledge, but there are some songs in the Beatles catalogue that *cannot* be discounted by any thinking individual who knows a damn about music! |
eenaweena 19.08.2006 23:42 |

Let me just say this... If Elvis was black, there's no way he would have given the media the title of "King of Rock N' Roll". Elvis basically stole what black artists have been working for decades, by then having RCA sell it under a white package. |

((Stomping my feet under computer desk)) but I will admit that I do like some Elvis songs, although I am black, but the music industry was a trip back in the 50's, Pat Boone is another name that comes to mind also, that payola, and Alan Freed drama...it was crazy, they didnt want anyone listen to that 'colored music' it was corrupting the youth...lol If those same people heard what kind of music is on the radio today, they'd do flips and pop willies in their graves...lol |

Yes and no 99% of the people that listen to music, know NOTHING about singing, even musicians know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about singing. Sometimes low voices are underrated because they're low, and sometimes they're overrated for being so "deep." Whatever... |

He was the most marketable conduit for this kind of music to be broadcast to white youth at the time - and now we all know that it came from the blacks (and indeed, usually sounded better when they did it) what's the problem?
