i saw that like an hour and a bit ago....at first I was bummed because I assumed that theyd be using the name Queen+ Paul Rodgers, but then I realised it probably never seriously occured at all to Roger and Brian that they might change the name, and got excited that Brian and Rog are recording. I think we can assume that Take Love, and Say It's Not True will be on the album. I hope they include the Felix and Arty song is a bonus! :P |

I'm a bit sceptical about this new venture. For a start, it will delay opening the vaults again and distract from Queen Production's real objective of releasing some Live DVDs from the 1970s. |

Does this mean GVH3 is gonna get shelved again??? (unimpressed) Just jokes. I am only interested in a new album from these guys if Brian and Roger do lots of the singing. Consider this, Brian's not really done a full album in 8 years; it's a waste of material! Roger too, is still that amazing drummer, I can't wait to hear more from them. I suggest you hoity-toity RIP 1991 folk pull your fingers out of your arses, and give the new album a blindfold test. If the music pleases you, then forget whatever name is on the label. It's pathetic behaviour. |

A new album of any kind since 1998 by roger and brian feat.paul rodgers would be very welcomed in my opinion i knew it wouldn't be too long before something was developed. I wonder who will play bass???? do you think they have considered asking john deacon to play bass or would they stick with danny miranda?. I wouldn't mind who but it would be great to see john back with the boys and see his name on the album sleeve. Imagine!!!! Brian may vocals guitar keyboards john deacon bass guitar paul rodgers vocals piano roger taylor percussion vocals Would be great anyway i think there's still vocals in both brian and roger to have them sing tracks on the album, and would a tour evolve from this i would like to think so i think since touring and jamming in studios brian and roger have got the bug to be out there again as much as ever and that's only a good thing don't you think?. |

If they do intend to do a "full" album, it would be safe to say they will do about 11-14 songs. If that's the case, I'll venture Roger will sing two, Brian three and Paul the balance. I don't really care if it's called Queen or not-if it's good it will stand or fall on it's own merit. Those who are angry about Paul being involved, consider this; Brian, Roger (and John for that matter) and Paul all have proven themselves. Give it a chance and listen to the songs...don't let your aversion to the name they may use be an excuse to miss out on some (probable) great music. |
Marcelo_argentina 16.08.2006 11:22 |
Can anybody tell if I am wrong?...I mean..as far as I know the guys (Roger and Brian) are obligated to call themselves as Queen...As I know for a legal issue...the company...the owner of righst..etc said that after Freddie´s death, even if two (no matter who) of the guys are playing together, they need to use the name Queen..that means that if Roger and Jhon want to play together and make a nwe album they shoul be called Queen....I think probably this is not true, but if anybody can help about this please it will be very welcome!....Now About the probable new album with P. Rodgers...I just take it as a new band...whom musicians are gorgeous.... Thanks. |
Al TurHao 16.08.2006 11:25 |
For the people who criticize my statement: - I went to 2 Q+PR shows; - I met Rog and Bri; - I became a PR fan. I think his songs are amazing and he IS an amazing vocalist; - I will buy the album; Roger and Brian having a new album? GREAT! My ONLY problem... is using the Queen name, that's all. I hope the stomach punch suits you fine when you'll read: Queen are: Brian May and Roger Taylor. It sells more if you use the name Queen... |
Boy Thomas Raker 16.08.2006 11:30 |
Bob-Plant wrote that "I don't really care if it's called Queen or not-if it's good it will stand or fall on it's own merit. Give it a chance and listen to the songs...don't let your aversion to the name they may use be an excuse to miss out on some (probable) great music." That's a great point Bob. Brian, Roger and John have all proven themselves over 30+ years. The project SHOULD stand or fall on its own merit. Therefore, as multi-millionaires who are working for fun or love or whatever we'll call this, that's the reason that they should call the project anything that doesn't use the Queen name. It's 2 Queen members, a Free/Bad Company/Firm singer whose primarily influence/style is blues music, and probably session musicians. It'll probably be guitar driven blues based rock, might be a great album, but at the risk of being attacked, that's not Queen. What is the risk of them putting it out under another name? It's not like anyone in the Queen universe won't know about the project through either this site or QOL or Brian's site. For some, the Queen name is meaningless, and they don't care as long as they get new music or a tour from Brian and Roger, and I appreciate that. To me and others, the Queen name is meaningful, and while I won't force my beliefs on others, I'd like them to put the Queen name to rest for recording purposes, and I'd hope that others appreciate that too. |
The Real Wizard 16.08.2006 11:44 |
Al TurHao wrote: It sells more if you use the name Queen...Obviously. Brian and Roger know full well that Queen is a more marketable name than either of their names. They are entiled to do as they wish. Personally, I think they should do what the Foo Fighters did and create a new band name. Chris Squire, Alan White, and Jimmy Page didn't call it Yes + Page. They were gonna call it XYZ (as in, ex Yes and Zeppelin). Rage Against The Machine changed their singer, and now they're the very successful Audioslave. There must be a decent name that Bri/Rog/Paul can choose. As long as it's marketed properly, the endeavour could be a commercial success. Consider this: Plenty of Queen/Brian/Roger/Paul fans will buy the album no matter what, and you won't alienate these fans no matter what name is on the cover. But the fact is, there is a fair percentage of Queen fans who will compare this to the old Queen, and no matter how good it is, they will say it's crap because Freddie's not there. But if Brian is true to his words, and they really do end up in that "new place", then they would probably gain the respect of people (and not just Queen fans) who open-mindedly listen to the new music of this new band consisting of three musicians from legendary bands, and admire the fact that they had the balls to go on with a new name. If the critics slammed the old Queen, then just imagine what they'll say about this project if it's called Queen + Paul Rodgers. But this project has sooooo much potential. I really hope the boys don't do anything they'll regret. |

A new album is extremely exciting....as is any new material from Brian and Roger but when they work together...it's magic....plus they have a great singer to work with in Paul and can take their music to a new direction...which I think is great...just love to see Brian and Roger excited about making music again.....as for using the name, I think it's simple....Brian and Roger have been part of Queen for 23 years...so who's kidding who....if they pretend they are someone else...no one will know them...if they say it's Queen people will say...hey there's Roger and Brian from Queen....everyone knows Freddie's not there....so it's not like they kicked him out of the band or anything....Queen + Paul Rodgers sounds great to me......and if they were to tour after an album what do they call it then...."The Nobodies" - you know if they do....nobody will go....if they call it Queen + Paul Rodgers....it will sell out and everyone but BPP will have a great time.... |

The majority of the songs they played were Queen songs so it isn't that weird that Bri+Rog still call themselves Queen. And it's their call to choose whatever name they like... It's like this - to me, not buying future releases because "Queen" is written on them is basically like living in 1973 and not buying a copy of "Queen" because you think the name sucks. It's the same total disregard for whatever music is on the record - if you can't listen to something before giving up on it, what are you worth??? I'd be pissy if they call this Queen and it's all new songs, because basically that's not really Queen, but I most certainly wouldn't let that stop me from at least listening to the music. Some people are far too caught up in themselves to give anything a chance, sometimes. |

That's all well and good Zeb, and I don't diagree with your points. However, if we are playing devil's advocate here, let's flip things around. If they use the name Queen, doesn't that mean that Brian, Roger and Paul are showing total disregard for whatever music is on the record? If they can't confidently release something before giving up on it and going to a proven brand name, what is their new music worth? I'd argue that, regardless of your, my, or opinions of the Queen community regarding the use of the Queen name, the music will stand or fall on its own merits, and that Brian and Roger should accept that, sales be damned. |

(Setlists for certain tours being too predictable, too Greatest-Hits-ee) so it's not like these guys need to play it safe by whacking "Queen" on it. I would honestly be more impressed if they'd try something new (with a new name), knowing full well that certain "Queenie" things would be inherited. After all, the seeds of all those massive overdubs and Roger Taylor squeals were already in Smile songs, so who is to say they can't be used now that 'Queen' as we knew it is all over? I guess what I meant to say is that; I agree usage of the Queen name on an album with no Freddie would suck balls, it would not stop me from listening to said album, because music should be above and separate from such petty concerns as these. There's a time and a place for arguing about names, and it's called Queenzone. :P |

I'm sure the album (if there is one) will be pretty good. Three musicians like brian, roger and paul are capable of writing some good stuff. Just think how long brian and roger had to write, it's been about 8 years since their last solo albums. to be honest i'm not a big queen + fan, but maybe there will be a lost freddie song or two to peek my interest. It should be good music, but i could take it or leave it, but I'm sure i'll check it out anyway. |

I think that Brian and Roger can go on recording but Queen can't. |

One last thought on the debate about using the Queen name-how cool is it that people are even having an argument about them continuing on with PR? Think about it...I seem to remember people being upset that Brian, Roger (and John) not working together for years...let's face it, if this is the worse thing some people have to complain about...thing's really aren't that bad now are they? |
