Okay, for 8th grade, I signed up to be in drama class. Except I forgot one teensy weensy detail... I can't act to save my life! Any, any, ANY tips from people who have taken this class will make me feel a lot better! And can someone please tell me if we do anything apart from acting there? A bit of art, perhaps?
Thank you so much for any help!
Get under the skin of your character. Imagine that what is happening to the character is happening to you. Don't over-emphasize, but at the same time, don't be a plank of wood. Give your character a personality of their very own.
Put yourself in their shoes. Show that you are committed and dedicated to what you are doing.
Memorize all your lines off by heart too.
I took Drama for year 9. Then I dropped it because I didn't feel I was getting anywhere. So I took Music and Media. Now that's my kinda thing! I hope you enjoy Drama as much as I did, Carol. =)
Ooooooo i can comment on this :)
I have a BTec national diploma in performing arts *blushes*
I would just say, let yourself go. it's all about just forgetting who you are (while acting only of course) and thinking in terms of the character. When you get into doing scenes and stuff like that, then you will forget yourself, because you have lines and movement to remember then you get caught up in the story and it all goes swimingly :)
I was a really shy person with little self confidence before acting, now it's made me a strong person, so it's a fantastic life skill more then anything!
Anyhoo hope that little story helped :)

Anywho, I signed drama as one of my electives and I can't really act, but isnt the classes to teach you HOW to act?
Either way I suck and I'm proud :p

I did it for year 9 and 10. The main thing is to be confident, and not be bothered about what people think of you. It really is fun if you can be confident. =]
I can help you out alittle bit....I did theatre in Middle School (6-8 grade) and in high school (9-12) grade.
One of the best things about theatre was that one of the things that helped me get over stage fright. Just remember this one thing:
When you are acting, people aren't seeing you for you. Well, they are physically seeing you, but they aren't really seeing you. They are seeing whatever character you are portraying. So, when you get nervous, thinking the audience is judging you, just remember they aren't. They are judging your character. They've seperated the character you are portraying from you the person, so you just need to make that seperation in your head, too.
Believe me, this comes in handy later in life. My ability to do this after drama training has helped me I don't know how many times, when I'm delivering papers for a history conference, giving a speech, leading a tour in a museum or leading a discussion section for a Western Civ class (this next semester).
People are generally too worried about how people are judging them to judge other people, they are too wrapped up in their own heads. Just remember that, and you'll be fine.
Best of luck!
