Sorry if I've missed this along the way...
...but how was "the announcement" actually delivered to the press? Did someoneone go out of the house and announce it to the press hanging around in the street outside the house, or was it phoned in somewhere or...
??
Thanks.
the announcement was made through the Queen offices (Roxy Maede? if I am correct with this) to the general press.
How an "official press release" realy worked in those days I don't know ... I gues they faxed (or telexed) the message to the most important news agencies (Reuters for instance) or directly to the newspaper departments of their choice ...
Stefan
i can only vaguely remember this. I think i remember a man reading this statement of Freddie from a note. (in front of his house...?) It was either Jim Beach or his doctor i guess, by the way he looked...a thin long man in a greyish suite with not too much hair on his head. Maybe someone has it on videotape and can post it here? It was broadcasted, otherwise i couldn't have seen it....in Holland.

"Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue." (Freddie Mercury press release 23th November 1991)

Yes, I already knew the text of the announcement, and I wasn't looking for a guess. ;)
But for those who didn't already know the text, thanks.
;)
I believe that Jim Beach read it to the assembled media outside Freddie's house on the Saturday evening and it made it to the Sunday papers the next morning.
They also faxed copies to the showbiz / entertainment editors of various magazines / papers too.

Ummm...I gave you *wink* emoticons! These --> ;)
And you *did* help, for anyone who had never seen Freddie's statement. As I said before.
It's logical that it should be in this thread.
So it's all good.
