Does anyone know of any links on the web for this concert? I have found some but the files are about 100 MBs, so they cannot be of the entire concert. I had the entire, it was I believe about 500 MBs, but saved it as data on a DVD and the disc is now corrupt. Thanks in advance. |

Hehe I feel your pain. I've had my Box of Tricks for over 2 years and I hate not being able to play that video. I had a VCD version someone sent me but it was such bad quality I trashed it without ever seeing the whole thing. I have this old broken DVD Recorder which converts PAL and I believe it will convert a PAL signal simply passing through it.. so.. if I can lay my hands on a VCR I'm gonna try to record it through that to the new DVD recorder in NTSC. Can't post it of course but when the time comes something might be worked out privately ;) |

Thanks for replying. Is your video VHS or DVD? I made a DVD out of the file I had, I don't recall if it was avi or mpeg, but I used Nerovision and it the end result sucked. I would like to try it again with Canopus. I only like early Queen videos-pre-leather Mercury-so there are only three that interest me: Hammersmith, Earl's Court and Rainbow. And the recent retail stuff. I have Hammersmith and Earl's Court. Do you know if retail NTSC DVDs of Rainbow are available? |

It's just a PAL VHS. That's the only official version ever released. Just to clarify: - Released in Europe only - 14 years ago - Long out of print - Never available for sale by itself - VHS only - PAL only - Released by Star Direct, not QP - Oh, and even NTSC people who've BOUGHT the fucking thing can't watch the tape. And yet because it was once 'official' it's always considered 'official' here and can't be shared. Go figure. This post will be followed by the usual "If you don't like the rules..." posts but I've spoken my mind anyway. You can usually find an unofficial DVD on Ebay but it's a gamble.. you never know if it's gonna be a decent quality VHS to DVD recording or someone making money off of something they downloaded (probably here in our hub where "the rules are slightly different") |
tgunn2760 14.08.2006 17:09 |
Apparently it was once available on NTSC DVD at Amazon: link Now you can't even find used copies of it. Trancer has some for sale, but I don't know if his stuff is retail or DVD-Rs. That concert by the way is my favourite of Queen. The video file I downloaded was not bad, if I had Canopus back then it would have made a fairly good DVD. |

Yeah but you'll notice it says that page was created by a seller. It wasn't an official release, trust me :) |

By the way, seeing as how it's out of print/non-QP/pretty much unavailable, wouldn't it be okay to post it? |

Yeah but you'll notice it says that page was created by a seller. It wasn't an official release, trust me :) I hadn't noticed until you told me. I found two DVDs of the concert for sale on Ebay, and in NTSC format, so most likely they are DVD-Rs. I guess the file I downloaded long ago was a VHS rip, and it was in PAL. link You will notice one items says it comes with case and artwork, but it doesn't sound at all like the official release. I found the DVD I made with Nerovision, and the video quality is quite bad. The colours scramble frequently, and the picture becomes distorted in the manner a VCR recording does when it is auto-tracking. But the sound is exceptional, I thought they might be lip-syncing, or they mixed the audio, it sounds that close to a studio recording. I believe the concert was recorded for TV and then released as a VHS video. This is by far the best live concert video by Queen I have seen. I re-encoded the video with Canopus, I ripped the DVD into one big VOB file and then encoded it again, and took two screen shots, one example of what the scrambly video looks like, and one of a good scene, but I can't upload them to this thread. I guess my only hope is that someday I may be able to access the video I have stored on the DVD-R disc as data, or find another VHS rip. It seems highly unlikely that this will ever be released by Queen again. |

I have some links but I don't think that I can share it in here, because queenonline mentions it in the history section, which means: Official! ;-{ |

Thanks PBB. The video is not cut up. I was most likely edited a fair bit, I would think a typical Queen concert runs more than an hour. But in the video you can see the band exit a limo and enter the theater, and then exit the stage while the audience is cheering, in 52+ minutes. I wonder why they-whoever they are-edit Queen concerts so badly. They made a mess of the "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" as well, especially the DVD version. The VHS version is a bit better. |
