I was reading comments on a youtube video, and two people were going back and forth, arguing if BM was a guitar god.
One said that guitar gods are the rockers who shred and do really fast stuff for five minutes. The other claimed that there's more to a guitar god, and that it's self serving to needlessly shred everything.
Your thoughts? Don't be all bias or anything. "I love Brian!" is a well-known fact, and has nothing to do w/ the question at hand. Wow I sound anal-retentive. Sorry mates! :)
Cheers!
Its not how fast you can play(well not really) its what the people listening feel when they here it. Example modern guitar playing is way to fast and you dont remember it long. Whilst guitaring years ago had slow and fast parts and you remembered it. Example pink floyd and the brighton rock solo by brian may. Look at bohemian rhapsody, slower solos but still has been voted the best song ever.

It's God ripping out on the guitar. There. Problem solved.

Eh????
Oh and I agree with the comment about the comments on YouTube. They are shit. On the Bohemian Rhapsody comments there are many many people going 'What a gay video!' and others thinking they're being cool and standing up for homosexuals everywhere by saying 'They're all gay so who cares?' in response to the homophobic comments. In reality they are just showing plain ignorance. How and John, Roger and Brian be gay and have 3-6 kids each??? And on the same video, someone prat wrote how Freddie wrote the song because he would soon die of HIV. No-one even knew about the disease at the time! I had never seen such rubbish. What reference does Bo Rhap have to HIV anyway?? As for Brian's guitar god status. I don't know much about guitar-playing other than he is a fantastic guitarist. He is influential, he sounds fantastic. Sounds like a very-near guitar god to me!!

What makes a guitar god?
His talent!
If you (and millions of people) can listen to somebody FOR EVER, then he's a god
At least that's my opinion...
hmmm....
Talent
Technique
Experience
Popularity
Unique sound
composition skills...I guess
For the "god" to be in a good band.
I would say...yep...Brian is qualified for this position. ;)

Well, here goes. According to the Queenzone Dictionary, Guitar God = Brian May. And there you have it. :-) I know, I know, too easy...I could not resist, mate.
Probably doing stuff that is nearly impossible on the guitar. Almost all my guitarist friends said they can't play all of Brighton Rock. Or maybe it's just them? Also the fact that he built his own guitar helps too. ;)

Agreed. It's not about speed, it's about playing with emotion. Let your feelings go into your music, and that's what makes a guitar god.
What makes a guitar god? A guitar god is much like a real god. Any guitarist who is well-respected and worshipped by his followers is a guitar god. The more of a following a guitarist can muster, the greater of a god he or she is. This is regardless of skill, talent, technique, soul, feeling, emotion, phrasing, etc., etc., which is all quite subjective anyway. We all like different people and things for different reasons. What's important is that we like them. This is the best way I can explain it to you guys. It is undeniable that Brian May has a very dedicated following (all of us, for example), and all of us in the Church of Brian May can be totally confident in our most secure faith that ours is truly a guitar god.
