Have you heard of the Problems the Queen Fan Club has at the moment? I think it's very sad, that they had to give up their home in London (where Fans from all around the world could visit) and Val had to leave! Please sign up for the Fan Club because without more members they'll sooner or later have to close! |

the international fan club fee is kinda expensive... it's in pounds. not all of us can afford to pay for the membership fees... :) i understand that it can't be just free, but they should at least lower the prices a bit... |

I'm sorry but $30 a year for 3 magazines with outdated news is just too expensive. |

What are the annual conventions like? If I did join I don't know if I'd be able to get off school to go to one of those. They sound great though. |

The conventions are really alot of fun and a chance to meet wonderful people from all over the world who love Queen as much as you do! |

I met a couple of people at WWRY who told me they love going to these, so it sounds like it might be a good excuse to catch up with them again. Meeting new Queen fans is always a thrill for me anyway. |

Just to ask, what time of year do the conventions take place? Better look in my school calender and check when I can take days off. |

WTF?????? A Fan Club supports its idols. If the Queen Fan Club which looked more like a corporation, a sidekick for Queen Productions is in serious financial problems... should it be the fans to help with money??? Bad management AND/OR lack of support by Queen! In case you haven't notice, Queen Productions are filthy rich! Let THEM handle the situation they created. |

The demise of the OIQFC is a real shame. I became a member in 1977 when it was run by Amanda. 4 mags a year full of excellent Queen info and a back page or 2 of pen pal addresses. Also a merchandise sheet that sold a lot of QUEEN items rather than FAN CLUB items. I joined again about 3 years ago and it was just shoddy. Even the membership card had a totally unrecognisable Queen logo on it - wouldn't Queen Productions allow them to use an official one? The mag seemed full of shit about fan club members. I, personally, am interested in Queen not the other fan club members. Also, the internet has taken it's toll on the fan club but it could have been so much different. The link from Queen Online should be 'members only' generating revenue and enticing fans with real tasty exclusive stuff provided by Queen Productions. In the late 70's when Queen were huge the fan club managed bloody well from a basement AND still took visitors AND organised conventions like the '78 one at The Empire, Leicester Square - with legendary radio DJ Alan Freeman. The Old Bakehouse was a barn in comparison and was an absolute tip on the 2 occasions I visited it. I don't wish to bring anyone down but how on earth did Jackie and Val fill up there time. Not with tidying up! I could create one of those mags in a week, brief a designer and pick up from the printer in another week (I know - it's my job). Anyone with half a brain and a clear head could organise Pontins. The real culprit though are Queen themselves. How can they allow their international fan club to be run from its' only employee's home. Brian once responded to my complaint about the fan club saying that the sale of t-shirts etc on Queen Online benefited the fan club. I asked Val in an email about this and she said, in so many words, 'bollocks - our only revenue is from membership fees'. So, who's telling the truth? What a fuckin' mess. In my opinion they don't deserve a fan club. But then, they obviously don't care. |
Micrówave 10.08.2006 17:34 |
Wow. I want this CLEAR running my fan club once it's up and running... broke up a while ago... the guy died. |

I too have been a member since the early days well late 70's anyway. They have gone through a lot of reincarnations in that time and for a long time I felt Jacky was doing a pretty good job considering what she had to work with, however I think of late she has totaly lost the plot and blamed everything on other outside influences such as the web. Frankly if she can't get to grips with the fact the world has changed she needs to step aside and let someone else run it. Now of course she can't because it's her business, however she has made some stupid errors recently like closing the fan club chat room. if she wants to compeat she has to have a viable website, that's life too bad if she doesn't realise that. Queen don't have to support it, it's Jackys business, they don't get anything from it, that decision right or wrong was made a long time ago, and Jacky simply has to live with it, she was involved in making it, she didn't have to agree. So now she has to run it in the same way we all have to run businesses, in a competitive environment, it's tough and sometimes you fail, lifes a bitch, but get on with it. I believe if she really wants to make it work she needs to get finacial support from a bank, write a proper business plan including the internet and then set targets that she must reach. The bank will support her if she has a sound plan, she can't expect fans to support her by raising the fee and then lowering the response i.e 4 mags to 3 per year, it just will not happen. Sorry but she needs to get proper business advice if she intends to continue. |

The quicker that organisation is disbanded the better. How people can be employed to run a club that does nothing other than organise 3 parties and a convention, plus out-source printing of a flimsy magazine is beyond me. |
