Okay folks. After a short discussion on a previous thread, it seemed like a good idea to upload our "worst mixes ever", if for no other reason than a good laugh and the hope that everyone will poke fun and tell us that they're pants!
I'd like to suggest that we make it a competition to see who has produced the worst mix ever.
The winner then gets the opportunity to burn ALL the entrants (their mixes that is!) onto CDR to keep forever...
The one rule of this competition is that the mixes MUST be "real" mixes that turned out to be so bad that they were abandoned.
There must be NO mixes that are made bad specifically just for this competition!!!!
I'll start by uploading my mix of "headlong", done in my usual style of editing between different versions of songs on my minidisc recorder.
This version uses the VHS release and Brian plugged into a Radio Station mixing disc on his US tour promotion back in '92 (?).
It's a great idea, but due to wildly different sound sources, the edits are so obvious that you couldn't fool a deaf person!
Now, if anyone wants to re-make this version of "Headlong" but do it properly.... :) link
It's a great idea, but I suspect that most of us wouldn't have kept any dodgy mixes, as there's not really much point. Sorry, not being a spoil sport, but I don't have anything to offer, because when I have finished a mix, I tend to get rid of all the in progress stuff, so as to conserve hard drive space. I work in .wav formats for my mixes, and they can end up being huge files, so anything not worth keeping is trashed.
On the subject of bad mixes, Queen themselves were no strangers to a dodgy edit here and there, for example, the intro of the 12" Headbangers Mix of Hammer To Fall. The edit where the drum intro goes into the guitar riff is totally cringeworthy, and given the technology available, I have never understood, with Brian being the perfectionist that he is, how this wasn't done better. Also, the extended part of the track sounds very different to the original, EQ wise, and there's another dodgy edit where the extended part merges back into the album version. I have attempted to make a better job of this in my HTF mix, which is posted on here somewhere.
I would also refer to the 12" mix of Breakthru, where the guitar solo is cut half way through. Not a bad edit as such, but a terrible place to do one. Again, I have attempted to address this in my Breakthru mix.
Aw c'mon Fickle, we all think your s#!t don't stink, don't be afraid.
As for me, there have been PLENTY.
And just so you don't think I'm being cruel, yes, I am "Lammey" :) link
I hope this follows the rules sufficiently -- it was abandoned because of how flawed the idea was. I was trying to make "Coming Soon" into a 3/4 song.
You may pick yourself off the floor from laughing now.
No, honestly, if it doesn't work, it gets trashed. Can't see the point of holding onto crap I would never want to listen to (although I still have Hot Space somewhere!).
Oh, God, you guys are a laugh. I wish I had the time and luck to go through my old cassetes and find my extended Flash Gordon mix LOL. I did back in 1982 or something, simply by using the pause-stop-record buttons of my cassete recorder. Should sound awful now :)
Cheers, and bring on the old mixes,

know what you mean...about HS lol
actually, i agree...was trying to mix Dog With A Bone / Fat Bottomed Girls for months and months...just didnt like the feel of it...which is a shame as it started as a cool idea
Ok heres mines link
This was not so much a remix more of a cut and paste style job I did when I was first learning how to use Cool Edit Pro as it was then! When I first did it I thought it was cool lol!
Actually, some of might remember a mix that Lord F and myself did a while back that used Brian's We Will Rock You, a version of Silent Night that I created and played myself and Dear Friends. Well I have an original mix that included those songs but instead of Silent Night I created a version of Twinkle Twinkle (again played by me!). I tried to do both songs in the style of Brian May himself. I "may" be tempted to upload the version of Twinkle as a stand alone version without the mix that Lord F did (to preserve his dignity!!)
Heres details of the original version link

This brought back so many memories! I remember doing this exact thing when I was a kid. Me and my best friend would make Queen mixes... He'd come over to my house and I'd make a pause-stop-record "mix" on my headphones and then play it when I was done. Then he'd do the same. Times were simpler then, eh?

Jeez, you as well? I thought I was the only one doing that as a kid! Mine were mainly Sweet (the band) mixes, but that old pause button didn't half take a bashing! When I was that age, I didn't know many other Queen fans, as they were considered a poofs group, but I didn't care, I still loved them, right from Seven Seas of Rhye, which I originally thought was Seven Seas of Ryde, Ryde being a town on the Isle of Wight, where I used to live!

God bless the internet, eh? I probably could've walked 10 miles in any direction and not have found 1% of the die hard Queen fans than are found here.
And yeah...that pause button mix deck. I remember making a mix containing a clip of every single Queen studio album released at the time. It took something like 20 minutes to listen to. I don't think I have that anymore but I do have the others somewhere...but if i feel like digging and searching for such an awful piece of music is another story :)
