Actually this is an open request to anybody with knowledge of stuff that would have made a better celebration of Freddie's 60th birthday. I just know that Mr. Stuart's "Ultimate Collection" threads were awesome, and it'd be good to have a Freddie version / compilation of those, to see what could have been. It's debatable whether or not re-releasing Freddie's "Greatest Hits" is annoying, but that's not really what I'm going for here. What would you prefer for CD2 instead of what we're getting? |

This question can be answered in two parts. First: Tracks known to exist - but were not included in the 'Freddie Mercury: Solo Collection' Box set. Second: What may exist - but still awaits official confirmation. (Again, I have tried to avoid material which may end up on 'Queen' rather than exclusively Freddie sets). AWESOME! Thanks for replying so quickly. I was thinking it'd be high time to revisit the "One Night Stand" idea. There have been so many "remixes" of Freddie's material, and 90% of them amount to professionally-done bad ideas. There are a few things on the FM 2000 box that are one track out of a mix (like just Freddie on "Let's Turn It On" or just the brass from "Mr. Bad Guy.") It'd be cool if they broke a song down (something other than LOMO or Love Kills, ideally) into its parts like Roger did with ONS. They could make those parts available, define some parameters, and then make a competition with a poll for best mix on the official site. The prize could be, dunno, the release for free? They could then have two really good professional mixes of that song, yes, one from the "dance" end of the spectrum, but another from the "John Deacon" (or "good" :) ) end of the spectrum. Anyway, I wish we had those parts (to be fair we have something), but that's essentially what I'm trying to do with my September podcast. |

ern2150: In the light of the above information, what do you (or other readers) think the 'Lover Of Life...' 60th Anniversary set should contain? How does it make the Official set (reproduced below) appear? In My Defence (2000 Remix) The Great Pretender (Original Version from 1987) Living On My Own (1993 No More Brothers Radio Mix) Made In Heaven (Mr Bad Guy Album Version from 1985) Love Kills (Original Version from 1984) There Must Be More To Life Than This (Mr Bad Guy Album Version from 1985) Guide Me Home (Barcelona Album Version from 1988) How Can I Go On? (Barcelona Album Version from 1988) Foolin’ Around (Steve Brown Version) Time (Original Version from 1986) Barcelona (Barcelona Album Version from 1988) Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow (Mr Bad Guy Album Version from 1985) I Was Born To Love You (Mr Bad Guy Album Version from 1985) The Golden Boy (Barcelona Album Version from 1988) Mr Bad Guy (Mr Bad Guy Album Version from 1985) The Great Pretender (Malouf Mix) Love Kills (Star Rider Remix) I Can Hear Music (Original Version from 1973) Goin’ Back (Original Version from 1973) Guide Me Home (Thierry Lang) Love Kills (Sunshine People Radio mix) 3.18 Made In Heaven (Extended Version) 4.50 Living On My Own (Egg vocal Mix) 5.40 Love Kills (Rank 1 Remix) 7.26 Mr Bad Guy (Bad Circulation mix) 3.24 I Was Born To Love You (George Demure remix) 4.00 My Love Is Dangerous 6.29 Love Making Love (Demo) 3.36 Love KIlls (Pixel82 remix) 6.12 I Was Born To Love You (Extended Version) 7.06 Foolin' Around (Early Version) 4.14 Living On My Own (No More Brothers Extended Mix) 5.17 Love Kills (Glimmers re-edit) 7.23 Your Kind Of Lover (V & P version) 3.38 Let's Turn It On (Acapella) 3.05 Finally, Win an exclusive Freddie Mercury original track! (Adapted from an idea by ern2150) In honour of Freddie's 60th birthday, (and as a rebellion against the Evil Empire's ‘Rank 1' remixes), I propose the first real Queenzone competition: 'The Queenzone Freddie's Birthday Challenge'. Open equally to those who like to create their own music (anyone recall Freddie Mercury and Stuart Leathem’s: ‘Nobody Understands Me’) or unofficial hybrid or fanmix versions, as the idea is to create new versions or mixes to rival those on the latest official CD sets. Tracks like ‘Let’s Turn It On (Acapella)’, ‘I Was Born To Love You (Vocal & Piano)’, or any of the isolated 5.1 Freddie vocal tracks are begging for newly scored or karaoke-sampled backings, while previous examples of great fan-mixes would have to include the Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson ‘There Must Be More To Life Than This’ hybrid, and the ‘New York At Last’ remix Anyone can enter as many times as they like, using many different styles, or even their own arrangements and instrumentation - but at the end of the day, it has to be a Freddie (or Freddie based) track. I hope to enlist the help of another few 'Queenzone regulars' as volunteer judges to share that responsibility, as all new material will be posted in the 'fan mixes' forum anyway, but at the end of the day, the collective decision of that panel shall be final. The only stipulation is that all submitted tracks to the competition must be in FLAC or as high a bit-rate as possible, so that Queenzone readers can cut their own alternative Birthday CD of favourite alternative mixes. To the overall winner, I shall donate a very special Freddie track. Unfortunately, I can not donate any runner-up prizes. A closing date will be confirmed for c12 weeks time. PS: Please post all entries in the FAN MIXES:’ The Queenzone Freddie's Birthday Challenge competition' thread as it keeps them all in the one location!) link |

Excellent idea -- A Freddie prize! Would you be so kind as to reproduce your offer as a bump for this thread: link I think if ANY of the above unreleased material had been represented on the official release, I would be much more eager about buying it. Supposedly Mr. Bad Guy (Bad Circulation Mix) is going to feature bits of a demo of that song that isn't on the box set...and that only makes me wonder if I can obtain it separately :) |

JSS, i have heard since around 91 that there was a recorded track from late 89 that was titled "It's so hard to beleive" written by Freddie, it was recorded but with no backing tracks for the Chorus, and no solo. Have you ever heard of this? My source is very reliable, as he worked with Queen around that time. But again, i haven't heard too much else about it since it was brought up at a Detroit Convention many years back. Could it have been mistaken by "Had to beleive me"? I may be able to get the lyrics, the actual track, hmmmm it would take alot of talking and sucking up to this guy to get. lol I look forward to your response. :) |

So here's the tally for those keeping score: Total number of audio tracks being "released" for FM's 60th (I'm including the sampler downloads here): 49 Number of those which were already released elsewhere, just NOT available in the SOLO boxset: 6 (All of these were released on CD previously) Number of "new" remixes: 8 (5 of them "Love Kills", the rest of them have already been remixed before) Number of unreleased songs, out-of-print or obscure vinyl mixes, new remixes of songs that have never been remixed before: 0 It seems that the Mr. Bad Guy remix contains some unreleased material: link It's possible (though highly unlikely) that some of the other remixes contain unreleased material. JSS (and Queen Productions themselves at conventions occasionally) has demonstrated there is more than enough unreleased material to act as a bonus CD (heck, even DVD) for this release to truly make it "something special." So why haven't they? |

That means they will release a few rare items here and there, but doing it this way upsets fans, but also drives their suspensefull attitude to go out and buy every product that they release, that way they have a 10 or 20 year plan. IMO. |
