Well here's the 'I'll teach you how to speak fluently just like me in only 7 months, or your money back guarantee' thread! (Carol's idea for a title!) ;D For all the people who want to learn to speak 'as Gaeilge' (Irish). I'll start with the basic phrases. Hello - Dia Duit Goodbye - Slan How are you? - Conas ata tu? I'm okay - Ta me ceart go leor I'm good - Ta me go maith I'm brilliant - Ta me ar fheabhas I'm not good - Nil me go maith I'm hungry - Ta ocras orm I'm thirsty - Ta tart orm I'm tired - Ta tuirse orm I'm scared - Ta eagla orm I'm happy - Ta athas orm I'm sad - Ta bron orm I'm angry - Ta fearg orm If there's anything else you want to know how to say let me know. |

Is aoibheann liom Gaeilge! I hear the Gaeltacht is supposed to be 'ar fheabhas ar fad' and it really helps you get better at speaking the language. Only thing is you have to be away from your family for three weeks. |

Most people in Ireland would speak English as their first language (like me), but there are regions called the Gaeltacht that would speak Irish all the time. There are Irish-speaking schools too but for the rest of us, we would start learning our own language at the age of about six. |

That's a poem that was written in the 17th century, it's one of my favourites in Irish. I don't know why, to me there's just a certain beauty about the words. |
