Oh yes this is my topic! Yes you need an amp as Louise said, that's why they call it an electric guitar. Might I say that Fender Strats are gorgeous guitars, they look and sound great! I've got one in sunburst and I'm totally in love with it. I'm still saving to get a Red Special! |

I try to play guitar...but I don't know how dedicated I'd be to getting an electric one. I pretty much started playing because I was inspired by Brian May. lol "Guitar for Dummies." :/ |

im learning!! I'm getting an electric 1 for my birthday, whether my parents like it of not!! |

My advice, get any old piece of shit for your first guitar. Once you can play really fucking good on that guitar, then think about spending money on a nice one. It took me twelve years of learning before I finally walked out of a shop with the Burns, and I'm glad I waited! My nephew got his first electric a few weeks back, brings a tear to my eye... it's like watching myself start out, back in the day. :P |
john bodega 12.07.2006 12:51 |
PS Can I just say... if you're playing at home, it's not the end of the world if you go a short while without an amp. Some electrics play nice acoustically (the low action on the Red Special actually makes chord work quite pleasant to listen to without an amp). |

Actually, no, you don't need an amp. You can play an electric guitar without it being plugged in and you will get some sound from it (but not as loud or nice as an acoustic). Or you can buy a digital effects pedal and run your guitar through that and then plug your ear phones into the output. This way you can get highly distorted sounds (if you want that!) without having to crank up a big amp and annoy the neighbours. |

Do i need special headphones or it doesn't matter? I don't think I can play loud in my apartment. So i want to cover the sound with headphones....if not I guess i'll buy an acoustic and play some Queen/Freddie songs with that....yes my first guitar. |
error 12.07.2006 16:11 |
You can buy those headphones in a music shop! |

I'm actually a keyboard player but I've always been interested in the guitar. I've fooled around a bit on acoustics and absolutely loved it. Just hadn't had the time to take lessons. |

Personally, I think it is best to learn how to play on an acoustic first and then pick up an electric guitar, but hey, most people would rather start with an electric. Not a bad thing at all, but not the way I'd go about it. Do what you want though, I'm just giving my opinion. |

I play accoustic guitar and it's fun, although I cannot do a cool Rock&Roll sound. |

It didn't matter too much in the end, when I picked up an acoustic I found I could play it pretty well. I just sort of got used to switching from one to the other, going from soloing to strumming! |
