Does anyone else really love "Don't Try So Hard"? It's a song that doesn't usually get mentioned as much as some of the others, but I love it :) It's so sweet and sad and I LOVE those high notes Freddie hits in it!
I´m a bit confused about Made in Heaven (I know it´s off the subject ;))
Some of the tracks sounds more like Freddie from AKOM (like I Was Born To Love You), and some of them like he did on Innuendo (like Mother Love)..
Why :s?
Because the Made in Heaven tracks were unreleased and/or unfinished recordings Freddie made that Brian, Roger and John went back and finished in the studio after he died.
The album came out in 1995.
A better answer to what you're querying is that the MIH songs come from different time periods and therefore, Fred sounds different in each of course!
Do a search on the forum and you'll find the list of what period each song belongs to.
Peace,
Adam.
I like the song a lot but don't care for some of the lyrics, which I feel are a little weak. Particularly the "dressed as lamb instead of mutton" line. But brilliantly sung as usual and great guitar work. I really also like to tempo change into "oh what a beautiful world".

Funny, I like that line. In context, it's a great visual.
"One day you'll be a Sergeant Major
Oh you'll be so proud
Screaming out your bloody orders
Hey but not too loud
Polish all your shiny buttons
Dressed as lamb instead of mutton..."
He's no longer an underling, one to be shouted at and belittled. He's hit the big time.
Mutton is common. Lamb is special.
Why do you feel it's weak? (I'm genuinely curious, not meaning to challenge)
I understand the context but I feel it's a little forced, just coz it rhymes with buttons. It's a small criticism really of a very good song. As much as I like the band ( I first saw them live in 1975 when I was 20 something and saw them 9 times in 4 countries) I always felt the weakest aspect of the bands songwriting was in the lyrics, but only with a handfull of songs. It's as though a riff was written, and the words were written to fit that.
Yes, I think it's a stunning ballad, apart from the synths very much in keeping with early Queen efforts in this genre. Vocally, we could almost be in the mid-seventies again;Freddie recovered so much of his poise in his final years, the subtle attnetion to detail had also returned with those ripple effects and muffled drum fills.
I love this song.
Its beautiful, and sometimes if it hits me at the right time, i have actually cried.
I know some people find the lyrics strange, but i love them, it truly gets the point across that you can achieve something, but dont try so hard, because with just the right amount of effort you can still achieve something.
Remember "Its only fools, that makes these rules, dont try so hard"
If im completely off the mark someone correct me here please. But thats what i get from it anyways.

On a side note, I do find, however, that Brian May's lyrics are consistently fantastic, with a skill level I deem far beyond that of any other songwriter I have ever read or heard.
I love that song... I just wander if there's a main author.. I've read quotes saying it was John, but I rather think it was a Freddie/Brian cooperation.
Anyway: beautiful, original, emotionally dramatic, like the whole Innuendo album (think of what an abyss separates it from The Miracle!!)
WhatMustHeThink wrote: I LOVE this song!!!! Ride The WIld Wind is MUCh better though, I just love it when Freddie sings "sometimes I get so low, I just have to ride!"
I LOVE RIDE THE WILD WIND! OMG!
Soooo freakin awesome....
It was another one i put on repeat for like an hour!
